Hi all thanks for all the great info this forum provided..

I am planning to propose soon and my gf told me she doesn''t like the solatire setting so I have been searching for a good alternative

that''s when I came across the tension setting and liked it alot

I found Novori have quite alot of tension ring

http://www.novori.com/diamond-tension-rings-12695R2-p.html

Anyone have experience with them?

I did some research that said brand such as Gelin Abaci are very reputable but I am located in Toronto Canada so i am not sure if they have any dealer around..

Also, what kind of price difference you think there are between Gelin Abaci and Novori?

I am planning to spend around $3000 on the ring...let me know if this is possible at all..

Btw, I need to make a decision soon...I have three weeks until my planned proposal

Is $3000 for the entire ring or just the setting?

And do you know that she likes tension settings? Or just not a traditional solitaire? It would be really good to clarify because the tension setting is something that women either love or hate usually.

Sorry, I don''t know of anyone who has a Novori tension ring.

$3000 for entire ring.

She told me she don''t like solitaire

How about Boone? Anyone have experience with them?

Maybe she meant she likes sidestones? Halo?

I'd be very surprised if you couldn't get one of the major manufacturers in canada. Gelin, Bunz, Niessing, Kretchmer...

Boone is nice, although there are no examples of ladies rings on PS, I believe. It is titanium, slightly different look/quality than traditional metals.

Right, but does she like modern, clean, architectural? Not liking a traditional solitaire could go either way - she could want something different, modern and *less* girly, such as a tension set ring, or she may just want some other type of ring but still quite feminine in styling, such as a three stone ring, an antiquey, engraved ring, and shimmering ring with many accent stones, a ring with colored sidestones, a ring with a colored gemstone center stone, the list of "not solitaire" is endless.

But just be careful if you don't actually know her opinion. Especially with your budget for a tension set ring, I think you will have to go with titanium or a cheaper metal as the white gold/plat tension set rings are quite expensive. (Others, help me out if I'm wrong here.)

On a few occasions, women have come post here on ps with more modern/masculine rings that their boyfriends surprised them with and been very... upset. Happy with the proposal, but not happy with the ring as it is a very unique style, some people love it and some people don't prefer it.

I happen to like them a lot, but in a cool phenomena way rather than something I wanted for my engagement ring. A tension set RHR would be great though!

If she likes tension set or you know her style and tension set would appeal to her, by all means procede. Best of luck!

Well said, ditto everything cara said.
Mrche, please involve your girl just a *little* more in this process ! As mentioned, at least from what I have seen, tension set are quite expensive compared to more "traditional" styles. Unless you know for sure she really loves this style, it could eat up alot of your budget just for the setting..Also, do you know is she prefers white gold/yellow gold?

Tension set rings are my favorite design, but I''m in the minority. Like the others haves said, talk to her to make that''s what she wants.

I''ve never heard of Novori so can''t comment. I can say that Kretchmer, Niessing and Bunz are very well made, quality rings. Don''t love Gelin Abaci though.

Any reason you''re going with this company as opposed to the more well known ones that have long histories with these types of settings?
