Not sure how to read an Idealscope Image!

So i''m not sure how to read the ideal scope image that I got. From what i''ve read online it appears pretty ok.

My Criteria was:

GIA
Shape: Round
Carat: 1.80
Color: H
Clarity: SI1
Cut: Ideal

The HCA was also pretty good:

depth%: 61.4
table%: 57
crown angle: 34.5
pavilion angle: 40.8
culet: 0

The wire price i was given was $11,800

I''m thinking of pulling the trigger once I get some opinions on the idealscope. Does anyone see any reason why I shouldn''t? Thanks

It looks like the diamond is tilted but from what I can see it looks good.

It''s got ever so slight leakage, but I don''t know if it''s enough that you would see it with your naked eye. I would talk to the person you''re working with, see what they think.

It is a very good diamond, but not perfect.
There is a little leakage under table, as Ellen said.
What is the GIA cut grade?
How is the girdle?

For a average person like myself, what is a dugout girdle?

and should i ask the dealer if he sees leakage? For $12000, should i be getting a better stone?

Because we're working with averages and rounded numbers Stephan. Without a Sarin/Helium report, we don't really know what we're looking at. Yanno?

Trojan, the price seems reasonable, but, it's a matter of whether you are comfortable with it, or want the best. Is it the best IS I've ever seen? No. Is it bad? No. Other than telling you that, I don't know what to say.

The number are rounded, of course.
So a 43.24% pavilion will round to 43%.
This means that this diamond has a pavilion not deeper than 40.85° (43.24%)
This pavilion should be between 40.7 and 40.85.
(40.9 would make a rounded 43.5% pavilion right?)
Crown is rounded to 34.5, so the average crown may not be higher than 34.74.
With a 57% table and the actual minor facets, I thought this wouldn''t produce under table leakage. That''s why my guess about the girdle.

Right about rounding, but what are the 8 percentages they had to average, to get to that point that they then rounded? See? I''ve seen leaky tables with these numbers before. Not often, but it happens.

Thanks for everyone’s input. I posted this stuff here, because based on what I’ve read this seemed reasonable for my price range and criteria. As an average person with no prior knowledge of diamonds I am in over my head and I’m not looking for the ultimate deal. I just don’t want to get ripped off.

I had an independent diamond dealer (friend of a friend) look at the specs and the wholesale price for similar diamonds. Her assessment was that it was a fair price and a good SI stone.

The question I have is can I do better for the price in this market?

I would not say you are getting ripped off at all. I think this could be a very nice diamond (though I would ask about the IS). As for getting "better", I found this one, which would run slightly over 12000.00 with the 2% PS discount off the list price. Just a hair smaller. Only you can decide if it''s worth it or not.

Is that the right image for the diamond the report goes to is my first question.
I am seeing an inclusion on the IS image that is in a different location than the report.
The plotting of inclusions isn''t always perfect however.

I would request that they verify the diamond against the report.

The IS isn''t matching 100% either, there is some digging but enough to cause the leakage at those angles should kick it out of GIA ex.

The leakage in the IS is minor in some lighting it might reduce the brightness a tiny amount but not a huge deal.
I would look at the price next to see if it priced right for its performance.

But until we know it is the right image for the report/diamond we arent at that point yet.
