well, i''d suggest not financing if at all possible. if you buy from a vendor with an upgrade policy you can always leave the door open to trade in the stone and get her something larger down the road if you choose to. Does she want a diamond for the center stone or would she be open to a colored stone? you know the other setting that popped into my head when you described her is the tiffany etoile setting. you can find other companies that make something similar and it''s got a modern twist yet still very classic IMO.

I have to agree that I don't think putting all three colors in one ring is a good idea. I do think that putting them inside the band is a wonderful idea! You could always come up with some sort of engraving that has to do with Zelda for the inside of the band (what, I am not sure...I have heard the name Zelda but know nothing about it). I love trillion sidestones, but I have never seen one as a center stone in real life.

You mentioned that she likes leaves...another member (Door Knob Solitaire) posted this website a few weeks ago, they have some beautiful leaf designs...not sure what the prices are, but they are probably over your budget. Gives you an idea, though:

With only a $1500 budget, I''d stick with a diamond or Tsav solitaire and a more intricate band, like your idea of leaves, or scroll work.

Hi there. I would agree with others and suggest a three stone ring - diamond centre with sapphires perhaps as sidestones? It still says engagement ring, classy and a touch different, but not looking like a Tiff setting.

IMHO I don''t think her hobbies should be taken into account when chosing her ering. You want something classic and timeless that she will love forever, and not a fad that she might tire of. A truly different and way out ring may not look like a traditional ering, and you mentioned you want it to look like an ering.

You seem to be in a situation where your girlfriend has different (for want of a better word, not meaning to offend at all!) tastes, and you are such a sweetie for putting in the effort to find something especially for her. Have you thought about getting some more ideas from her? Perhaps she could browse through some eye candy folders here and give you an idea of what she likes, and more importantly what she really doesn''t like. Good luck - don''t forget to post pics!!

I''ll try prodding her a little more without being obvious, she has no idea I''m doing this and I want it to be a surprise.

The idea of a Shield Shape diamond is intriguing... and the more I look at Trillion cut rings the more I''m not sure if she''d like it. But then again she is the type of girl who would love anything I get for her, but it doesn''t mean I can slack

Not sure I can be of much help, I just wanted to say that you are SUCH a sweetheart, putting so much thought into this and trying to make the ring so ''her''.

I also agree that any Zelda reference should be secondary to a beautiful ring. That way, IF she stops being a Zelda-phile in another 20 years, the ring is still beautiful in its own right.
 
I think going with a Tsavorite center (her favorite color) would be beautiful and keep you in budget. I also like the idea of a small diamond center with Tsav sides.

Like the others, I would not suggest a Trillion center... I think it''s fair to say most women would not pick that as their first choice. And if she is realllllly into the whole red-blue-green thing, she could always stack eternity bands on a finger in each of those colors- then she isn''t "stuck" with the color combo. I mean I totally love contrasting colors like blue and orange, BUT I would most def not want those colors in an ering!

I think someone already mentioned Greenlake in this thread? I absolutely LOVE this ring... and I love the leaf engraving (like you said your GF likes).

If she isn't so common, and her favorite color is green, I agree about going with a tsavorite or green sapphire center. It'll be stunning and ANYTHING but ordinary, and it'll save you some dough.

Knox Jewelers has this really unique, beautiful setting that she might like with a green center. It'll take up a good portion of your budget, but your girlfriend seems like she'd be just as into the setting as to the stone:

ETA: As for a stone, I'd see what Jeff White of www.whitesgems.com can cut for you. See if he can get any rough tsavorite and cut you a sparkly ~.75-1 ct round.
 
I have to just say that I''m with the others about not relying on the Zelda theme too heavily for an e-ring., and I also think that choosing a more "traditional" cut such as a round or asscher for a centre with a single colour for the sides sounds like the way to go. I;m also not sure whether a trllion centre cut will work. I think you''ve been given some really good ideas here!
I understand that you gf has these different tastes, and evryones entitled to their own style, however I''m sure she''ll love a ring that you''ve put alot of effort into choosing, with or without zelda references!
 
I think a diamond center, maybe a princess cut, with tsavorite trillions as side stones. You can also reverse it, tsav center with diamond baguettes or something. I think tsavs are STUNNING and different.

No offense to Zelda etc, but you can get her a fun ring for that. Maybe stacking bands, thin, one with rubies, one with tsavs and one with sapphires, for her right hand, that could be wedding type bands. Maybe also do one of just diamonds so she can alternate and mix and match them on her right hand.

I just think theming your e ring to a game is a bit much, and not a long term classic. You can do tasteful, small, not flashy, etc without doing so. I cannot imagine that is going to be a passion of hers for the rest of her life. Just my two cents of course, but I think you can utilize the theme in a more traditional way.

I believe she would like a beautiful setting more than "the perfect stone". However I''m going to try to keep it balanced so it looks pretty and has a nice gem as well.

That''s a pretty broad question! And you''ve been given lots of suggestions for this already. If you haven''t seen anything on those sites that you like, you''ll have to narrow it down for more suggestions

I went back through ur thread and ppl suggested the following for settings: Green Lakes Jewellers, Fallers.Com, Bluenile and Pearlmans.com amongst others.
Personally, I think you were on the right track when you posted the setting earlier with the leaf motive down the sides in the yellow gold. This would be a very sophisticated choice, but I wonder if it is within your budget?
I found the following at Pricegems.com and think it fits in with what you''ve said you like? It is a peridot centre, and you would have to consult the experts here about the hardness of that stone as I know nothing of gemstones. Plus, bonus it is under budget at $1000 for 18k YG.

Ah yeah, I''ve looked at them and while there are nice things on them, I wasn''t too sure if you could order off the website (some of them are designer pages where you have to find a dealer to obtain it). There are quite a few links that I liked and with those I have a good idea of what I''m wanting... but now the question of "Where do I buy it?" comes in

Don''t limit yourself to websites where you an pick a setting, add it to a cart, and then check out. Pick what you want, then figure out how best to obtain it--instead of the other way around.

So, you say you have a good idea of what you''re wanting. Does that mean you picked one? Or just that you know what general design ideas you like? This is the kind of information we need in order to point you in the right direction...

Ah-- Yeah thanks! I should back track quite a bit to look over things. Very possible I overlooked things when just "obtaining ideas" as opposed to "where to buy". I agree with the Colored Center and band with leaf markings. And yes, my budget is of concern too, which is why some websites have nice things that I can''t quite afford
