I am looking for saying to put on our invites that is 12 words or less and is not cheesy. Actually I really like realistic and not sappy. One of my fave sayings for our wedding is actually the lyrics to Umbrella by Rihanna. The chorus definitely says marriage to me, but it is very long and also trendy so I am still on the hunt for something.

I thought you girls might be able to help because I have gotten some really fabulous ideas for other wedding stuff. Ideas?

Also, we are having a beach wedding and the invite is a modified picture of palm trees and the ocean glistening in the sun at our location. I am not sure if that changes anything but it might.

I''d check Storypeople. I love it, and they''re usually short and realistic.

I don't know if this is cheesy, but the last line of our ketubah (marriage contract) reads:

"May we live each day as the first, the last, and the only day we will have with each other."

I really love that sentiment, and I often think of it at random times during the day.

ETA: Sorry, I just realized that it's too long.

Longer than 12 words (Like 25.....)but:

Don''t walk behind me, I may not lead
Don''t walk in front of me, I may not follow
Just walk beside me, and be my friend.

Thanks those are both beautiful and I may use them. Good idea to look for religious related sayings...my fiance is Jewish.

I grew up singing a song with these words, it''s quite beautiful.

nkarma--These words are used in a song that is part Hebrew, part English, so there''s a Jewish connection, there.

These are the lyrics:

"Lo yisa goy el goy cherev
Lo yilmadu od milchama

Don''t walk in front of me I may not follow
Don''t walk behind me I may not lead
Just walk beside me and be my friend
Then we will walk together hand in hand"

The Hebrew means:
Nation shall not lift sword against nation,
Neither shall they learn war anymore.

The song is so beautiful.

nkarma...here's a few I found:

I am my beloved's and my beloved is mine. (I think that is also on many ketubahs)
I have found the one in whom my soul delights.
Let our souls and spirits intertwine.
Love is composed of a single soul inhabiting two bodies. (Aristotle)
Now join your hands, and with your hands your hearts. (Shakespeare)

My favorite love-related monologue comes from Wuthering Heights, it's long (and really realistic actually if you read it), but my favorite excerpt was
"Whatever souls are made of, his and mine are the same"

Oh, and this one from Calvin and Hobbes:
"If we're in each other's dreams, we can play together all the time!"
(The full quote was “I think we dream so we don't have to be apart so long. If we're in each other's dreams, we can be together all the time.” )

ETA: My hubby's fav quote from Calvin and Hobbes: 'Girls are like slugs - they probably serve some purpose, but it's hard to imagine what. '

I had no idea there was a song with those lyrics! I just thought it was an old saying.
