Need some advice PLEASE!! Just received some photos from Single Stone before my ring goes to get polished and engraved and was in shock when I saw the photos as I am very disappointed with the bezel. It is much thicker and curvier than I had wanted. Plus the millegrain looks like an inner millegrain where a sample ring I had them ship me had a thin enough bezel so that the millegrain ended up being at the edge of the bezel due to its thinness. I specified that I wanted a think bezel like the one I saw in person.

I am going to contact Single Stone obviously, but since PSers have such a keen eye, if people had any suggestions on what can be done to make the bezel more appealing. I hope that because of the shape of the profile that the bezel does not need to be so rounded with so much metal showing. I am intending to have the sides of the bezel engraved but i did not realize the sides are ROUNDED so now I am uncertain that will look good! So sad that I have been planning and waiting and see something that disappoints :(...

The side view is what really bothers me--is the macro photo making it look much bulkier?? Face-on the bezel is still thicker than I want but all the metal showing on the profile really bothers me!

They might need that much metal in order to DO the engraving. Was the version you saw engraved? But w/o seeing photos of the ring you *ordered* I'm not sure what PSers can do to help!

You'll probably have to talk to the vendor directly ...

Sorry...here is a little background. This is a custom ring, so they added the bezel to a design that is pronged. They sent me another ring (photos below) that I was considering that had a bezel and I really liked the thinness of the bezel and side engraving -- I have attached (some blurry) photos of that ring. I know the sides are different so I am hoping that I am not limited because of that. I just did not realize that the bezel would be so rounded and was thinking it would be thinner both face on and from the side view where there could be a little bit of engraving.

Hmm. Not sure how to help, but maybe the design on your custom ring is like that because on the ring that they sent you, i'll call it the sample ring, the basket doesn't taper in towards the stone and your custom one does. Not sure if I explained that well ---- but the sample ring basket is the relatively the same size from the top to the bottom, and your custom one rounds and tapers in towards the main stone.

I'm not even sure if that is helpful for you or what you can take out of that... Just making an observation.

It looks to me like the bezel covers more of the stone than it absolutely needs to - is that what you means by "curviness?" If so, that's something they should be able to fix. Are you happy with the ring otherwise? It's lovely, but sometimes it can be jarring to see something in 3-D whereas before it had only existed in your mind's eye ....

MrsM, have you spoken to the vendor directly? is it possible the thicker "curvier" bezel is a 'pre milgrain' look? once the milgrain is complete, I think it would alter the depth somewhat.

Call first, share your concerns and that's exactly what you have planned - hurray! THey are proceeding as if you are totally over the top in love with it and if you can make an adjustment to it (if not too late), make that call and prevent any unhappiness.

All I can say is this. Ari has a thick skin and a desire to make you happy. Nicely tell him what you're not happy about. He'll tell you if it's structurally possible to fix. If not, he'll work with you until you find a design that you love.

Talk to your vendor.

As suggested, I would discuss this with SS but to be honest, I think your ring looks better than the sample one. Could just be my tired eyes though...

I agree -- I think the design you picked needs to flow upwards toward the diamond ... and that a harsh perpendicular bezel jutting up out of the top -would look weird. And if a flat thin bezel as shown in the sample ring were squished down into the ring -- the engraving would be covered by the leafy filigree arms of YOUR design.

I think it's a matter of two vastly different designs being mashed together & they chose to do it the way it *worked* aesthetically. It might not be what you expected ... but what you expected might look *worse* ... or maybe you just didn't anticipate all the aspects in creating your expectations?

Did you see sketches or CADs beforehand? How did you expect the bezel to be integrated into the leafy arching arms of the setting?

Working with SS now to make some tweaks to the bezel. They have been very accommodating and I fully expect to love the outcome. Will be back with photos after the ring is complete!

I have to agree- I think your bezel looks more fluid with the design than the sample picture you showed.

So glad you will be happy after your conversation with SS. Glad it will all work out!
