I live in CT and all of our river''s are overflowing! Luckily no water in our house (except for our brand new roof that is leaking

), but many people I know have 5 inches to 1 1/2 feet of water in their basements. We live across from a river, and the people who are directly next to the river are all underwater. Streets are shut down, it''s crazy!

Hi girlface,

I'm in CT too, but it doesn't seem to be so bad in my area (New Haven County). The stream in our front yard IS overflowing. Fortunately, it is far enough from the house and at the bottom of a slope.

Are you in Eastern CT? It seems to be the worst there and in RI.

Hopefully, it stops raining soon!

yup... CT is drowning

I''ve run about 10 loads of laundry today so I can keep putting dry towels down... we''re wet-vacuuming every half hour, put in an even bigger sump pump this afternoon...

BLAH!!! RAIN I LOVE YOU BUT GO AWAY NOW!!

I wonder how Boston is doing. My brother is supposed to catch the train back there from DC tonight...

I almost started a thread about this days ago...but I thought: ENOUGH with the weather threads ;-). I figured no one would want to hear about it after just hearing about our big wind storm that closed schools in Greenwich, Connecticut for a whole week and a winter full of snow storms. The "wetlands" (we used to call it a swamp when I was a child) behind my parents' house has now become a lake. I grew up in this house and I have never seen water come up to their property! If they had lived on the water, their land would have been more valuable! They lived next to some woodland/marshland! Well not yesterday!

I commute in and out of South Station (Boston) every day and the trains were definitely delayed yesterday evening. One of the NY-bound trains was delayed for hours. I hope your brother made it in from DC without any big problems!

We were helping the in-laws dry out their basement until 1 a.m.--luckily the rain started to subside at that point.

The rain has slowed in the Boston area but the rivers haven''t crested yet. Experts are expecting that later today or tomorrow. We rushed home yesterday after receiving word from our landlord that other residences in our community had water in their basements. We got home to discover 3"-4." We managed to snag the last pump on a fresh off the truck pallet of pumps at home depot and have had that running since about noon yesterday. The water was coming in so fast that it couldn''t keep up and we had 6" in the basement at bed time. The rain slowed overnight and the pump was able to make some headway and this morning we were back to where we started at 3"-4." Our furnace is off for safety reasons and while our pilot light on our HW heater was still on and not anywhere near the water on the floor, we suspect some water got in and affected it because we had luke warm showers this morning. We''re hoping that the pump will take care of the rest of the water this afternoon.

Our basement, while unfinished, was full of old family furniture and other odds and ends we hadn''t found a home for since moving in October. These odds and ends were things like an antique doll house and toys, wool rugs, camping gear and many of DH''s tools. They''ve never had a flooding or water problem in this development so we were not concerned when we left all of this on the floor. Hahaha we''ve learned our lesson!

Luckily we have renters insurance which will cover it all (we believe, though I have to follow up with the ins company today to confirm), but it won''t replace the sentiment that was attached to many of the items. Unfortunately we have nowhere to move any of this stuff to dry it out. Our garage is full, we have h/w floors throughout our house, and well, there''s nowhere to put it outside. So it''s just going to have to sit where it is for the time being

There are many more, but I''ll spare you. This last one is just silly. It''s DH rockin my pink floral wellies.

Oh HH, I am just so, so sorry! That looks awful!

HH: Ugh, how awful! Hope things are drying out.

I am so tired of this weather---snow storms, floods, torrential rains, winds. Please weather gods..the NE deserves a pristine summer and fall after this! And I don''t want to hear any drought warnings this summer either!

Oh HudsonHawk! You poor girl-- what an awful situation. I hope you get a break soon.

The closest thing to an upside was that you were able to snap that photo of your husband in the floral pink boots. You know, the waters will recede, the basement will dry out, but that gloriously embarrassing snapshot will exist in family photo albums for decades to come.

Sorry you''re having to go through that, HH.

I hope you''re able to rescue the things that are most important to you.

Sorry, just saw all the responses now...

Lovesvintage, we are county neighboors! I''m in Middlesex County on the shoreline.

Hudson- your husband is too cute wearing you wellies!

The aftermath of all that rain was none too pretty in our area. The river across from our road was surrounding people''s houses, some had to evacuate. Some cars were halfway covered with water. Some people had up to 2 feet of water in their basements. Luckily, we were pretty much unaffected.
