Hello everyone!

I recently ordered a Tacori 2639rdp setting for my girlfriend and have been shopping for the diamond for quite some time. I have been on truthaboutdiamonds and have seen some of the James Allen recommendations they sent me. Most of these seemed way above and beyond(larger, cheaper etc...) the 2 local jewelers I went to (Smyth and Mervis). After finding pricescope I have been checking White Flash and Brian Gavin for diamonds as well.

Unfortunately I really don't know 100% of what I am looking at when I am looking at these pictures online from these sites. So this is where I am hoping to get some input and help on making the final decision.

I am looking for something around a 1.25ct round as that is what my gf liked the most on her finger after trying on different rings. Just curious if anyone has any input on a stone for this setting and if the above 3 are all good places to get the diamond etc...

I would post some of the diamonds but I do not have them on hold yet and I have seen enough posts explaining to do that first so I am working on that now haha

Thanks everyone and I look forward to chatting with you all! :wavey:

oh sorry I forgot to add I would like to keep the budget around $7000 but can go up to $8000 if worth it.
I have been shopping mostly around G-H in color and SI1 clarity to stay within the budget and size.

You have already ordered the setting? Is it already being made? I thought usually Tacori settings were made to fit the diamond, necessitating having the diamond first. If this is not what you're doing for your ring, do you know the mm size that the setting fits?

I agree with the PP - I have a varna/tacori styled ring and it was made to fit a certain stone
really carat size isn't that helpful. with that (gorgeous) setting
how many mm is that setting for the stone?

I would stop the setting order for sure and am not sure why a jeweler let you do that. The setting is made for the size of the diamond you buy. And Tacori should set your diamond.

That said, the best diamonds, in my opinion, for Tacori rings are the August Vintage rounds by Good Old Gold.

Good Old Gold carries Tacori and could have had the diamond set for you, too.

I am sorry I should have clarified that a bit I guess. The setting is not being made or ordered yet I have just picked it out and was going to get the setting but did not like the diamonds they were showing me at the store for the price. So I was going to find a diamond online and then once I have that all said and done they are going to send it to Tacori and order the ring to be made.

Wow I have never seen one of these August Vintage diamonds before. They certainly seem pretty awesome. How do they differ in person from the typical "hearts and arrows" cuts ?

I should also note the pictures I am finding of people with AVC diamonds seem to look a little more square to me, and the one thing she does not like at all is squares. Is that just the common shape people get or do even the rounds tend to have this slightly more bulky square look? it also seems that they go up quite a bit in price compared to regular rounds.

DiamondSeeker posted an August Vintage Round they come both round and square/rectangular cushions. I know one guy posted in here he went into the GOG store to buy a H/A round and after he saw the AVR's he was amazed at their performance and that is what he bought for his fiance. Watch the videos on GOG because they compare the H/A rounds to the AVR's ...and you can see the difference in the flashes of light which are big and bold vs. splintery and small in a well cut round brilliant stone.

I haven't seen one in person but love the rounds and they seem to face up larger than the cushions because they are cut a little more shallow. Their performance is rather mesmerizing IMO. I don't think you can go wrong...they are unique and your GF will most likely love it too. I agree with DS...that Tacori setting is perfect for the Old European cut stones which the AVR's were designed to be like those antique cut stones. They are just amazing.

Good luck,

Yes, as Ariel said, AVR's are round and AVC's are cushions. Two totally different stones but both based on antique cuts. They carry a price premium partly because they are very well cut to have great light performance and also because it takes larger rough to cut these than some other kinds of stones.

The AVR's have very beautiful chunky facets and would go so well with antique style settings like Tacori.

Here are some of GOG's Tacori settings and two of them are set with AVR's:

Very cool! thanks for the video's I did not find those before. Found some on youtube from GoG as well showing H&A and AVR comparison which was really nice to see.

What color would be the lowest you all think possible for a Tacori setting? I only ask because I was told by several places I went to they would not go below a G-H in a Tacori setting because of the side diamonds. Brian Gavin was showing me J's which I am a little worried about going that low in color.

I think with antique cuts you can go a little lower even when there is contrast between the setting stones and the main diamond just due to the fact that antique stones often were lower color. I think the Jonathan's wife wears an N color AVC in a Beverly K setting, for example. I lean toward G-I colors, personally, but I think J color could work since it will face up pretty white.

ok thanks for the input. I just finished speaking with GoG about doing the setting and diamond with them instead of where I was getting it from before. We are searching through some inventory with both H&A and AVR :) I will post up some stones when I narrow it down a bit and see what you all think :) Thanks for all the help and sending me on a better path!

We are looking at this diamond right now, it seems to be a pretty good deal. Opinions?

The performance of this one seems to be really good based on the documentation provided. I like going lower in clarity too, since you get more bang for the buck! GOG has great service and value - I got my ring and diamond from them, too!

Looks like a very nice stone! GOG is great - I've dealt with them several times and have always been very satisfied. Please post more pics when you get it!

Glad to hear you both enjoyed your GoG experience so much! I have to say, so far after just 1 phone conversation, they really seem like a great place, very knowledgeable and great selections. I was a little unsure of this diamond with the inclusion in the center but it does seem like a good deal and they said you can't see it with the naked eye.

If it reassures you, go take a look at my ring thread. :) I have an I1 clarity with a giant inclusion in the middle that is eye clean! :)

Very nice looking unique ring :) It looks wonderful! I can't believe the price you got that ring together for :o amazing. It is funny I see you are from LA and we are actually moving there in a few weeks! So reading your posts was actually quite educating, and to see after all those places you ended up with GoG :)

Beautiful stone with a very nice diameter! I don't think you could go wrong with that! I have had two diamonds from GOG and have nothing but great things to say about them! I am really happy to hear you are considering letting them order the setting because that is really the smartest way to do it since you'll receive the finished ring all ready to insure!

Wow I am happy to hear you all say such great thing's about the stone and GoG, I was in between on it simply because it is the first stone we really got into chatting about haha but I have been looking at so many for weeks now so something about this one really jumped out at me.

What do you think about the Solasfera cut's compared to the H&A?

Thank you! Many of the places I visited were wonderful, but for our meager budget and high demands for light performance GOG was perfect! :) Welcome to LA, it's awesome here! :wavey:

Thanks @webdiva we can't wait to move! love it there!

I am having the diamond sent to me, should be here by wednesday they said, so I can check it out in person :) Hopefully this will be the one

Just an observation, especially if you are considering the AVR/AVC or Solasfera...the size of the diamond matters a lot! GOG's videos are truly awesome, but one thing the viewer should keep in mind is that diamonds are not commonly 2'' diameter (which is approximately how large a ~1.25 carat diamond looks on my screen).

What that means is, a certain Solasfera (or any type of cut, including round brilliant) that has perfectly sized flashes of light in a video may not be as perfect to your eye in person because the diamond is actually xx% smaller. Or, conversely, it may look a little off in the video, but is just perfect in person and life-sized.

update::

The diamond is absolutely stunning, nothing I looked at in several local stores compared even close to it. Going to ship it out to Tacori to have the ring made and I will be sure to post pictures and more updates once it finally arrives!! :Up_to_something:

Thanks for all of your input and help everyone =)

ring is here from Tacori and it looks really amazing! Wanted to thank all of you for helping me make my decision. Just trying to find a good way to take some nice pictures of it and I will update!

Which stone did you end up going with?

Wow, you have waited almost a year since buying the diamond to do the setting (although I can understand considering the cost of these things). But we appreciate you coming back and definitely show us pictures of the ring when you get it!

I would LOVE to see the finished ring, I am interested in that setting myself !!!!
