Non polished girdle

Im thinking about buying a .50 si-2 g color stone but the girdle is not polished mention in the appasial now well this affect the brilliance of the stone experts please and im gettitng a very good price for it 200.00 but would it be worth it Thanks

A diamond's girdle can be bruted (unpolished, rough like granulated sugar formed when the diamond's shape is formed by being rubbed against another diamond), polished or faceted.

It probably won't affect the brilliance, and I think some folks may prefer a non-faceted girdle over a faceted one ( the cutter Bill Bray?).

I personally have thought that a bruted girdle gets grey (with dirt) over time and that this may effect the apparent color, and I like the look of the faceted girdle.

In reality, it's a personal thing, and probaby has little effect one way or the other.

Hey, thanks for thinking of me here!

Actually, according to JohnQ, although my diamond's girdle is unfaceted, it is not considered bruted. Nor is it considered "polished". (Even though the appraiser described it as "polished".) John explained once in a thread somewhere that girdles like mine are carefully hand finished on special equipment and are in in a "very happy place" somewhere in-between!

And BTW, it's a lovely girdle, that enhances the stone (definitely does NOT "take anything away")... and I love it just as much as the polished/faceted one I had on my old stone.
