Hi guys long time lurker in need of some help. I found a stone details below from a trusted diamond vendor in the Jewelry District Los Angeles, and I was hoping to get an expert opinion on it. My main concern is the cut. I used the Cut Advisor and it rated a 2 good depending on the price. I''ve grown confused with all the GIA EGL HCA etc... grading systems. I''m looking for a diamond that sparkles something that shines that gives me the same twinkle that my future wifes eyes do when she looks at me. What do you guys think? It''s gourgous in person and the dealer is very nice and all but I just dont know. Thanks for you help!

GIA
1.72
J
SI1
EX CUT
EX Polish
EX Symmetry
NO FLUORESCENCE
62.5% depth
57% table

41 degrees pavilion angle
PRICE 10,050 (OUCH)

What are the diameter measurements? It''s a little deeper than I like, so let''s see if it hurts the diameter any.

Would the measurements work?

7.63-7.66 x 4.78mm

Sorry

Pricewise, it's pretty close to what I paid for my 1.73 SI1 J AGS0 Ideal cut from GOG. By the numbers, it doesn't look bad, but I am no expert. It's beyond my personal limits for depth and table size, but that's just my preference.

ETA: My stone's measurements are 7.76 x 7.75 x 4.76 - a little better spread due to depth...

Yep, that stone could appear a little larger if it did not have that depth. My 1.63 ct. stone is 7.6mm.

Good Old Gold actually has a 1.75 J VS2 for just a little more that has a better cut and clarity:

Thanks for the reponses everyone. One question considering I''m on a budget would you give up the EX polish EX symmetry to VG for a better cut diamond? What would this do to the overall look? Again I''m really looking for something that blings. I notice a lot of people opting for AGS cut diamonds also. I guess this would be another alternative considering GIA diamonds fetch a slight premium over AGS graded correct? I''m trying to stay about or under 10k for the diamond itself by the way. Am I being resonable considering the size shape color and cut I''m after? Thanks again!

nope, not true. in fact, for the same stone AGS would fetch a little higher premium. i don't mind buying GIA or AGS.
