Ninja Diamonds?

Greetings,

I have a question regarding H&A diamonds. I looked
at various photos of H&A diamonds in the "Forum
Engagement Ring Folder/Eye Candy" section.

I understand that for H&A diamonds, there should
be arrow patterns when viewing down on the diamond''s
table using a special viewer.

But some of the diamonds that I''ve seen have what
I can only describe as a black shuriken (ninja
star dart) in the middle. Is this to be considered
desirable or normal? Or is this an optical illusion?

Note in the attached photo, the diamond on the lower-
right hand corner doesn''t have this effect.

Please educate me. Thank you!

Hi DJ, and welcome to PS!
interesting comparison that you've noted there, and it does look simliar..
with regards to H&A patterns, most of the time the distinct arrows are not visible in day to day viewing - the black pattern you described is mainly due to head or camera obstruction when taking the photo.
That said, the arrows can also show up in silvery and other colours in the light/sun and look really fun.- you may have also seen these photos while looking around here..
The pic you mentioned at the lower bottom right is how the diamonds will "usually" look..just sparkly!
