I found a very small knick in my RB yesterday. Right along the girdle. It''s crazy because I just had it re-set a couple of weeks ago, took it to the apprasier (it was fine then) and then 2 days later I felt the little chip. We just submittted the new appraisal to the insuarnce company so I am covered. Just curious of what the next step should be.......do I go back to the appraiser or should I go to a jeweler? Or contact the insurance company. In my opinion it looks like it could be polished out fairly easily.

Any suggestions?

I am sorry to hear this. I would go back to the appraiser as he or she has just examined the diamond, they should be able to give you the appropriate advice as how to proceed. Maybe one of the pros will see this and chime in to help you!

Thank you....I just left a message with the appraiser and I will see what route she recommends I take.

I don''t have any advice but I do want to say I am sorry and hopefully it is an easy fix.

I am sorry about that, I hope that you are able to get the answer that you are looking for. I found that my diamond has a small chip to the girdle as well, only I have not recently had any work done. I debated on whether I should call my insurance company, but I just never bothered in the end...I am interested in hearing how this turns out for you.

I discovered a small chip in the girdle of my diamond a few months ago. It could have been easily fixed, but it would have voided my trade up policy (since the diamond had to be in original condition for trade up). I decided to file a claim and replace the diamond only because of the trade up policy. Otherwise I would have had the stone fixed.

I am so sorry to hear about your diamond being chipped. Good luck on getting it fixed.

I went back to the appraiser today and I have extensive damage. She told me if i had it polished I would loose about 15 points. She recommends replacing the stone.....Thanks everyone!

good thing it was covered by insurance! these things happen. let us know which stone you end up choosing as a replacement.
