I'm in California, and am planning a wedding in Brooklyn. I contacted a church there several months ago, and signed a contract for $2500 to rent the sanctuary. I went to the church's website yesterday, and realized that the rental fee is now listed at $1400. I contacted the church, and, thankfully, they agreed to honor the new rate for our ceremony. So, yay for $1,100 in unexpected savings!
The church coordinator told me that because the economy has been so bad, the church had to lower its rates. It did not occur to me the the price for these things would ever go down, but it makes sense. I thought I'd just pass this story along to other brides who might be getting ready to sign contracts with their venues. You might want to add some language to the contract saying that if the published price goes down, the venue will honor that rate.
