Next Step for Michael B??

I need some help from the pricescope members. I finally decided on a a beautiful H&A round stone and need to send the stone to Michael B to be set. Its probably the nerves, but what is the next step.? I called Micheal B and spoke with his wife to get some info on the whole process. She told me to send the specs so they can prepare a setting for a faster turnaround which is great. Sending the stone across the country is whats stressing me out. Do I insure the stone before sending it? can you insure a loose stone? Where do i insure it?

For the people that have a Michael B setting how did you feel about sending the stone to be set? Did anyone have the stone set elsewhere? are the ring sizers at the jewelry store accurate for a Michael B setting?

Congrats on your diamond purchase! I went through a similar problem recently because I sent my stone to Leon Merge too. My boyfriend got the loose stone insured privately, in case it chipped during the setting process or was lost during the sending process. He insured it with the same company that insures his car and his personal belongings in his apartment. This actually turned out to be a reletively painless process. They charged him $240 for the whole year, but he could cancel at any time. So he might cancel after the completed ring comes back safely.

Then I called Leon to tell him I was shipping, enclosed a letter for what I wanted (with the size of ring I wanted) and sent it by fed ex. I believe that US post is the safest way to send diamonds, but since mine was insured, I sent it with the same carrier that brought it to me. Leon called me a few days ago to tell me he had started on the ring.

I did freak me out to send the stone to NY (I live in Quebec, Canada) so that was an added headache, but with the insurance I told myself, if it breaks, we''ll get another one. The insurance allows me to sleep at night

It depends on your insurance company to determine if you can insure the stone prior to setting. What you can definately do is to insure the package for the full amount and I would suggest that you pack it carefully and not mark it as a loose stone anywhere visable on the outside.

I will be sure to insure the package for the full amount but once the package is signed for the stone is left uninsured.
