I started to get in my next round of options for my ering upgrade from my Jeweler. He has been sending me larger 2.0ct EGL diamonds and I asked for GIA certified ones instead with better clarity. Here is
Option 6# two more will follow later

GIA
1.60 Round Brilliant
G
SI1
Cut Excellent
Polish Excellent
Symmetry- VG
Flourescence- none

I don''t like that crown with that pavilion

.

The pavilion, ideally, should be ~40.8.

Another GIA steep deep with an HCA of 5.

Keep shopping if you want good cut.

Its a steep deep, the pavilion is too steep in any case regardless of the crown angle paired with it, can lead to other undesirable issues.

Sarah, I think this cheat sheet might help you as a guide to finding a well cut diamond.

depth - 60 - 62% - although my personal preference is to allow up to 62.4%
table - 54- 57%
crown angle - 34- 35 degrees
pavilion angle - 40.6- 41 degrees
girdle - avoid extremes, look for thin to slightly thick, thin to medium etc
polish and symmetry - very good and above

note - with crown and pavilion angles at the shallower ends ( CA 34- PA 40.6) and steeper ( CA 35- PA 41) check to make sure these angles complement in that particular diamond - eyeballs, Idealscope, trusted vendor input - check as appropriate!

As the above implies, configurations depend on each other. A little give here can still work with a little take there.

From expert John Pollard.

With that said, here's a "Cliff's Notes" for staying near Tolkowsky/ideal angles with GIA reports (their numbers are rounded): A crown angle of 34.0, 34.5 or 35.0 is usually safe with a 40.8 pavilion angle. If pavilion angle = 40.6 lean toward a 34.5-35.0 crown. If pavilion angle = 41 lean toward a 34.0-34.5 crown.

GIA "EX" in cut is great at its heart, but it ranges a bit wider than some people prefer, particularly in deep combinations (pavilion > 41 with crown > 35).

yap, no good at all.

Trying again with attachment

Option 7 didn't post, I'm seeing the red x.

Last option has the same problem as first option.

ETA: never mind, it's posted now. Liking option 7 the best - nice table, complementing angles, just so long as it's verified eyeclean.

Option 7 is the WINNER! :) If eye-clean.

Finally something worthwhile.... :P

Thanks Stone Cold...you guys have been so patient with me! Though I think my jeweler is really starting to hate me. You would think in this economy he would practically be throwing rosepetals at my feet. I told him no on the other options except for #7. He still says he will continue to search for other options throughout the weekend for me. I was really hoping for something just a little bit bigger and I really don''t want to settle but we will see what happens. I will continue to post the certificates for opinions as I recieve them. Thanks for helping out an overseas military family!

no problem. :)

Last one has potential Sarah, much better than the others!
