Hi, I''m a first time poster, but have been checking this forum for awhile to learn from all of you. My boyfriend and I have been checking on rings for a month or so now. I know that I want a simple platinum solitaire ring, I really like the princess cut but all the posts about the princess cuts have worried me, an alternative would be the Asscher cut. I have two stones that I want the experts opinon on. We know about basics, the 4C''s, but that''s it, it''s important that the stone is colorless, clarity no less than VS1. Thank you in advance for your opinons.

To be quite honest...it is really hard to tell how good a stone is from just the numbers on a GIA cert.....more information would definatly be a help. For example, idealscope images, brillinace scope, sarin data, GemAdvisor 3d model....one of these would be a good start to letting you know how well the diamond will perform optically.

Specifically on the asscher...you are going to want to make sure that the strong blue fluorescence is not giving the stone a milky or oily appearance...not that this occurs that often, and not that I have anything against fluorescence, but it is somthing you should ask the seller about.

As far as the princess...I would personally like to see a table that is down under 70, but that is not a hard rule, more of a basic in-house guideline that we follow here in the store.

Bottom line is a idealscope/brilliance scope is going to tell you much more about the optical properties of the stone than a set of numbers, although both are very important. The more information the better.

All the best in your diamond search!!!
