Hi all,
I recently purchased a platinum band with milgrain edges from Signed Pieces. The band is 7.5 & I need it to be 5.5.
Can I take it to my nearest T&Co even though I didn''t purchase it there?
Is there a sizing cost?
Will sizing it ruin the milgrain?
Will they ask to see proof of purchase?
Will they polish it? If so, for how mucH?

Sorry for all of the questions, but I don''t have much experience & I save a good amount through SP, so I figured it was worth it

Thank you so much!

is it an eternity band? if so then no, you can''t resize

Yes, and from what I gather they will repair, fix, do whatever to smaller jewelry items w/o proof of ownership.
If it''s a diamond then no, you would have to have the orig. docs. from them and get the item put in your name to be serviced

Is there a sizing cost?

Yes, depends

Will sizing it ruin the milgrain?

perhaps, again depends on the ring, see first answer.

Will they ask to see proof of purchase?

Not likely since its not a "high end" item like a solitaire.

Will they polish it? If so, for how mucH?

Polishing, cleaning is free.

Thank you so much!

Sometimes people get a "valuation letter" on less expensive merchandise for insurance or whatnot but you don''t really need it on the smaller stuff.

Hope that helped. And Welcome

Lisa said it all great ... just thought I''d add ...

Ditto
Ditto
Ditto - they are usually really good about explaining if the sizing/repair won''t work well (ie: mess up the milgrain or whatever)Ditto
Ditto - they will polish gold and platinum for free! (I think they started charging for silver, however)

Yay!! Have fun!!!

HaloAngel,

I would call your local Tiffany and ask to speak to whomever is in charge of the "service" department. It is my understanding that whether or not you have the original papers, they will service any Tiffany item. I could be wrong. I believe though that they are quite used to this b/c of all the estate Tiffany jewelry that no longer has receipts etc. They made the jewelry so should they stand by it no matter how you came to own it. I would be shocked if they take a different view for the more high end jewelry, like solitaires. If anything, I would expect it to be the opposite, because high end jewelry is often traded at high end auctions and typically those customers expect the jeweler to service all items created by the jeweler whether the customer bought from them directly, inherited the piece, or bought it from someone else. Please let us know what they tell you. My local Tiffany will service any authentic Tiffany item, though of course they would rather you buy first hand directly from them. :-) I don''t know what the costs for sizing are, but like everything else with Tiffany, it will probably be higher than what someone else would charge, but at least you know they would do a very good job with it.

Thank you so much for the prompt answers! The band does not ave any diamonds. It is just plain with a milgrain edging.
I will let you all know how it goes at Tiffany''s. Maybe I should just get it done locally? I wonder what the price differences ae?
Although I definitely don''t want to ruin the band!

Actually, no. I sent a bracelet that I thought was theirs to be resized and they said it wasn''t theirs (I got it from an auction so shame on me) & didn''t touch it. However, if is for just a cleaning I''ll bet they would do it.

Diamonds of larger sizes like solitaires have reg. #''s laser inscribed on the star facet and inside band to prevent fraud. However for older pieces before laser inscription not sure how they authenticate but they can. People can switch out diamonds for sure!
