Here is a brief description of what my wants (or my gf''s wants) are:

Radiant Cut
1.20-1.30
Ideal Cut
D-G color
VVS1-VS2

I have looked at a couple diamonds and I found a nice one for $5,800 that is 1.21, F, VS1, Depth% 69.7, Table% 69, and no fluorescences. Do you think this is worth the money? I am looking to spend about $7k-7.5k for the whole ring so I''m not sure if I can get a bigger diamond for the money.

Also, I will be mounting this diamond on a plat ring and can''t decide on having tappered baggett''s or trill''s for the side stones. What do you guys/gals think would look the nicest and what size side stones would compliment the center diamond? Please let me know of anything else I missed or provide me with any tips that you feel I could use.

Thanks in advance.

1. get an ideal-scope photo
2. do some price searching on pricescope
3. i like tapers - they contrast. but tril''s will give the same crushed glass look.

That's a wide net to cast for a diamond...

The price range between VVS1 and VS2 is serious, even though there is no visual difference between these grades.

Same goes gro D-G

And there is no "ideal cut" defined for radiants, although these is an original diamond cut made by the same firm which introduced this cut (see radiantcut.com).

Otherwise, second what Garry says: looking for good brilliance (his Ideal Scope is meant to help with that) and size for weight should result in a nice find. I could not ask more from a diamond.

Just my 0.2, as usual.

The diamond you are looking at seems a bit deep, but it could be nice. You really have to see it to know. I generally like to see depths of 60-65% for radiants. Anything larger than 65% and the diamond will appear smaller than it should for its carat weight. Keep in mind I am not an expert, and this is just my opinion.

We are actually looking for a similar stone and the best advice I can give you is to understand the difference in the wording for fancy shapes vs. round/brilliant in terms of cuts...there are guidelines that can give you an idea of what numbers to look at in finding that "perfect'' stone but even after that, it can get down to if the diamond is a beautiful stone or not. As far as the price goes and off the top of my head after a long weekend, it sounds reasonable to me but our experts will know better than I! Good luck, hope we both find the right diamond-and its not the same one, LOL!

Thanks for all your help guys. I have been researching the radiant cut and have read that even if the depth %, table % and crown are at the "ideal" percentages, the diamond still might not have great proportions. Is it at this point where individual preference comes into hand?

On another note, I think I have narrowed my search down to

1.20 Radiant
F-G
VS1
And obvious:
table % - 60-65%
depth % - 60 - 65%
crown % - 12 - 15%

Do you experts think I will find a diamond like this for around $6-6.5k? Thanks again.

You are right that just because you have ideal numbers for the table, depth, and crown height, that it doesn''t guarantee a beautiful diamond. The numbers can be used to rule out some stones, but in order to know if a diamond is beautiful, you or your appraiser has to see it. With your budget you should be able to find a stone with the requirements you named. It may take a little while, but you should be able to find one. Also, if you''re buying online, make sure you buy from a vendor with a return policy just in case you don''t like the stone once you get it.

Good luck.

Would you suggest I buy the diamond off the internet? What online stores would you guys/gals recommend? Thanks in advance.
