Hi all,

I am new to the site and received some nice welcomes in the intro forum. I am about to purchase an ering for my girlfriend and would like some of your opinions, good or bad. Sadly, I found PS after the fact I put a down on it but the jeweler is the parents of my friend so I feel confident.

EGL

Cert # starts with - AW (I assume it is Antwerp)

natural diamond
weight: 1.04 ct
Shape and cut: round brilliant cut
Measurements: 6.57 x 6.49 x 3.98
proportions: excellent
depth %: 60.9%
Table diameter %: 57%
Crown Height: 15%
Pavilion depth: 43%
Girdle Thickness: MEDIUM
Finish grade: Excellent
Purity: Internally Flawless
Color Grade: D

Comments: ideal cut, diascript

That is pretty much all it says. One question, diascript, does that mean the cert# is laser inscribed on the diamond? I did a search but couldnt find much information.

Can someone plug those numbers in?

If I were plunking down some serious coin on a one carat D/IF I sure wouldn''t put all my faith in an EGL report. If you''re dead certain that this is the stone for you, then I strongly encourage you to seek the counsel of a very skilled independent gemologist appraiser prior to purchase (or make sure you have a return option). Aside from that general caveat, the diameter variance measurements (6.57 - 6.49) raise a bit of a red flag. But not to worry, EGL''s got your back -- the proportions are described as "Excellent."

Best of luck!

hi guys,
thanks for the comments. I read that the diameter varience should not be more than .1 mm for a 1 ct stone. I agree, it is far from "excellent" as the cert states. The other problem is that the price is VERY low, practically too good to be true, 5k to be exact. But, looking at the diamond, it looks beautiful, but i am by no means an expert. He let me hold the stone for a small $200 deposit since I am friends with his son. I just know im going to hear it now

, too good to be true?

Also, what is diascript?

that price is more like a G SI1/H VS2 non H&A stone.take the stone to an independent appraiser.

i like to see variance of <.04 mm

5 K for a 1.04 D-IF. Even if the cut is horrible, this is an incredibly low price.

The report is incorrect in colour and/or clarity, which, if it is not EGL-USA, would not be surprising. In that case, I would consider this fraud by the cutter or wholesaler, who has asked for these grading reports. We are not talking about the stone actually being F-VVS2, or something like that, the difference must be bigger than this.

Live long,
