Ok, well I have been reading about diamonds for a few months now, and I just wish it were easier to get engaged haha. I live in NYC, so the diamond district is right around the corner from me, but I don''t TRUST anyone there, seems like you are prey when you walk into one of those placed.

I read about the 4 C''s multiple times, and tried to talk to a bunch of people, and everyone has an opinion.....you know how the saying goes.....some say make sure you have a perfect cut and no fluorescence and go with a smaller size, some say make sure the clarity is at least a VS1 and don''t worry about the fluorescence.....at this point I am just frustrated.

Also heard that big is not good for a smaller person, my gf is about 5"3 100lbs and her ring size is 4.5, so she is small, so should I get 1.5ct? or is that too big already? I see some people at work who have stones that look like they are 2ct, but when I ask they are only like 1.4ct, I read that a premium cut will look bigger, maybe thats what it is.....

So with trying to keep total budget at 10k......

This is what I am looking at......

One more thing I am confused about, does it matter what type of certification it is? is GIA the better one? Bluenile seems to have all GIA, and I like that you can see them and return things no matter what in 30 days. How is Abazias? I read they give you 10 days to return.

I know how it is trying to explain to a n00b, so thanks in advance for taking the time.

Since you are in NYC, I would suggest contacting Mark at www.engagementringsdirect.com in the NYC diamond district and Jon at www.goodoldgold.com in Long Island. Both are upstanding vendors who will guide you to a wonderful purchase while educating you on more that you can ever believe without any pushy sales tactics.

Thanks for the reply, I will deff try to contact those vendors.......those sales tactics is exactly why I do not like the district....I even have some family members in the business, and they are the last people I would ever approach...

Do you have the contact info for Mark from http://www.engagementringsdirect.com/

I tried to click on contacts and seems like the web site is acting up, nothing is loading up.

Their website appears to be down at the moment. Here''s their telephone number: 1-877-342-7464 and contact email: [email protected]

Thanks.........

I looked at goldoldgold.com and the prices there seem a bit higher than that of the link I showed....are they flexible? I also emailed them to see if they can put me through to Jon.

Still seems like I am better off buying online.

Thanks

Abazias is a drop shipper, meaning they send the stones directly to you without ever seeing the stone. You will assume the risk of gauging the cut, accuracy of the lab cert and eye cleanliness of the stone YOURSELF, hence the low cost.

GOG and ERD: Both will act as your expert "eyes".
GOG will run your stone through a gamut of tests like the Idealscope, ASET, Sarin, etc to verify the accuracy of the colour and clarity grading of your stone, prove the performance of the stone, etc. This is why their prices are a little bit higher. They also sell online and in person, so they are both considered online sellers with prices that you cannot get at regular brick and mortar stores. Both also offer trade-ins/upgrades and warranties on the stones that they sell.

Blue Nile does offer AGS certified diamonds. If you do a search, you can click a button to expand your search criteria and results to show what lab certified the diamond. They do not have their diamonds in-house for someone to take a look at the diamond and discuss with you, though. FWIW.

ok, I made appointment with both of those vendors.......any other advice would be greatly appreciated.
