What does "steaming" your jewelry entail?

Putting it in a food steamer? (Honestly that''s the first thing i thought of)

hey cindy! steaming is just another method of cleaning jewelry. steam cleaning machines convert water to a pressurized steam, and then a nozzle emits this steam to help loosen the bits of grime that may be trapped in the small crevices of your jewelry.

just like an ultrasonic cleaner, not all jewelry should be cleaned using the steaming method though. i hope this helps!

So there''s a special steaming machine for jewelry? How much do they cost?

TIA ladies :D

i''m developing an OCD with my jewelry, i want it to look clean and sparkly everyday.

my colleage caught me staring at my ring today (seeing if its dirty) and i pretended to be looking at my nails instead :P

LOL! i'm the same way! i not only stare to see how clean it is, but i love looking at how sparkly my eternity band is anytime i'm in sunlight or under fabulous indoor lighting.

to answer your question, yes, there are special machines. they vary in price since some are commercial grade ones used by professional jewelers, and some are specifically for home & personal use. if you're really interested in one, i'd Google around for one that suits your budget. there is this one brand called Jewelry Jet and you can get it for around $100. i actually use my espresso machine's milk frother/steam nozzle to steam clean my jewelry!

Can i just use the steam from my iron? LOL :P

I can''t see why it won''t work!

LOL! unfortunately, the steam coming out of an iron isn''t as pressurized as an actual steam cleaner.

Curious, which other types should NOT be cleaned with the Jewel Jet?

certain gemstones like tanzanite, for example, can fracture due to extreme temperature changes.

on Jewel Jet''s website, it states: "There are many stones that should not be steam cleaned. These include, but are not limited to, Opals, Emeralds, Tanzanite, Kunzite, Garnets, Peridot, Pearls Coral, Turquoise or stones that may be glued in or porous."

That makes sense!

So, it is the heat that poses the problem. What about a pave ring?
