found out the wholesaler giving me amazing prices is using Gemscan grading, and after a search through the site i hear it snot a bad grading company for here in Canada.

ok after long deliberation i might use martin from usacerted... just cause they are gia...... spending 500+tax dollars more because they are gia.. Why cant these grading companies have ONE standard! ughhh. makes things more expensive :)

also will i really really notice a big difference between a G and a H..... i want it to "LOOK" as colorless as possible in a white gold setting.

are you on a time crunch? if you have time, take it. don''t rush this. there is a lot to see and learn in the diamond world!

it depends on a few things.
cut (well cut diamonds sparkle like crazy and therefore look brighter)
grading lab (not all are reliable and consistent)
size (it''s easier to see color with more surface area)
eyes (everyone percieves color differently)

all in all though, you should be perfectly fine with an ''h'' color diamond.

a little on the crunch time... i wanna get it purchased so i can propose at the moment i feel necessary :)

ok so the situaton is i went to the wholesaler at dundas square and he had an sI2 diamond (i couldnt see inclusions with the naked eye) only under the magnification...... seemed to be very bright had a gemscan of very good cut G color..... and it was a very cheap 3200 bucks CASH......

now 3200 is an awesome price for me it will allow me to not stretch...... im not an expert and neither is my gf... but since the diamond looked amazing shouldn't that be enough?

OMG i went to spence just to see what a vg gia certed diamond looked like and OMG.. just incredible... the diamond my wholesaler showed me looks like a wooden barrel in comparison, guess im sticking to gia and ags certed diamonds only... :)unbelievable shine. i couldn''t tell the difference between an excellent cut and a very good.... :)

S2k: Be weary. You won't find many amazing deals in the diamond market. If it looks too good to be true, it's because it is. There is so much that can affect a diamond's price that you won't find on many in store or online diamond descriptions. And it's generally a safe assumption that if a stone would have received an AGSO/GIA Ideal grade, they would have sent it to those companies (Why else wouldn't the vendor send the stone away to GIA or AGS instead since those stones command a premium). And it's much safer to throw out a few potential "diamonds in the rough" than to get stuck with something you THOUGHT was a deal only to find out you got what you paid for. So my suggestion is in line with some of the advice you have gotten above, stick to GIA Excellent or AGS0 grades and don't stop there. If you are looking for a great cut, run it through the cut advisor as well and do what you can to either see it in person or get as much additional info as possible (IdealScope images, images for clarity, etc.).

By the way, I've been keeping score:

Belle: well done.
Ellen: well done.
Clipper: Not to be rude or mean or anything. But the advice you are giving has me scratching my head.

last question..... I find some sI2s at amazing prices even for gia... but completely eye clean......have a lot of people had great luck with si2s?
thanks

I have an SI2 and I can''t find my inclusions. They can be a great value if you find one that''s eye clean.

For me, as long as I can find SI2''s that are eyeclean and don''t interfere with the performance of the stone, I will never buy a diamond with a higher clarity.

thanks:)

You're learning!

And there are several people on here with gorgeous SI2's. Aljdewey is one of them, I think she may own more than one, you can do a search on her.

Good luck on your search, and let us know what you end up with!

Running from belle and Lorelei, lest they throw me in the moat
