hi all... longtime lurker, i''ve learned much from this place!! after much searching, FF has put a (refundable) deposit on the diamond below... i''d love to get a few more opinions on the quality.
1.50 round brilliant
7.34x7.29x4.49
D/SI2
table: 57%
depth: 61.4%
crown height: 16%
pavilion depth: 42%
pol/sym: vg/vg
no flour
cert: EGL USA
HCA score 0.9 (vg on spread, ex on everything else; says "ex w/in FIC range")
$9,900
a few things:
1) at first i was concerned about the EGL cert, as i haven''t read the most favorable things about them on here. i''ve since discovered that while they tend to be softer in color, they are pretty much in line with everything else and sometimes stricter or as strict as GIA in clarity. as the diamond is colorless, i''m honestly not concerned if another lab would grade it E instead of D.
i also read that EGL has been known to give vg ratings of pol/sym for the same diamonds that GIA/AGS would rate ex/id. has anyone else heard this?
2) it is eye-clean, meaning neither FF nor i could see squat upon CLOSE [read: 2 inches from face] inspection.
3) my concern: we were told this stone is essentially "ideal"... but i''ve gotten conflicting info on whether the crown & pavilion %''s fall w/in that "ideal" range. insight on this? a number of charts show the 42% pavilion as below the acceptable range for ideal (most starting at 42.5 or 42.
, but one place showed it w/in range but the crown % as too high.
4) given the stats and minimal difference, does #3) even matter?
we''ve seen the stone (twice)... it''s really very beautiful, but seemed more fiery than bright - may have been due to the lighting (flourescent office lighting w/ diffused daylight coming in from large windows)?
sorry for the long post... thanks SO much for any thoughts/insight!

ETA: i don''t have info on the culet so i guessed (i know, i''m bad)... i''m 95% positive that it is very small to negligible so i played around w/ the #s in HCA. the .9 is for 0%. culet of 1% would make the score 1.5, scintillation drops to vg.
