Hey pricescopers,

I would like to order a diamond ring by tomorrow, or sat by the latest. As I plan to propose in 2.5 weeks.

Please help me find a ring online, as I'm a newbie :wink2: .

here are my criteria:

round cut
~1.5 carat
i-j color
SI 1 clarity (but eye clean 2 inches from the eye)
very good cut/excellent cut
budget: $6k-$9k (preferably lowest price possible)
pave cathedral band

If you guys could find some rings with the links to them i would REALLY APPRECIATE IT!!

thanks in advance!

A quick search of GOG and WF shows that if the budget means with setting included, you will probably have to drop to 1.3ct or so I/J, or look at SI2, or pick through the "virtual stones" that the vendors don't have in stock and they have to call in. Most of WF's virtual selection Js in the 1.5-1.6 ct range are $8700 - $9000 or more, just the diamond itself.

I color range is a pretty tight range. J is much wider, meaning it can be a high J close to I all the way to a lower J close to K.

Contact ID Jewelry and see what they can get you as a package deal w/ setting included. Maybe B2C Jewels, too.

These spec ranges will get you started if you are picking through virtual stones. You want HCA cut adviser score ideally 2 or under but from 2-3 might be worth considering.
These specs are "restrictive" but the best shortcut I am aware of:
depth - 60 - 62% - although my personal preference is to allow up to 62.4%
table - 54- 57%
crown angle - 34- 35 degrees
pavilion angle - 40.6- 41 degrees
girdle - avoid extremes, look for thin to slightly thick, thin to medium etc
polish and symmetry - very good and above
note - with crown and pavilion angles at the shallower ends ( CA 34- PA 40.6) and steeper ( CA 35- PA 41) check to make sure these angles complement in that particular diamond - eyeballs, Idealscope, trusted vendor input - check as appropriate!

Get the ASET image to look for leakage, and the Idealscope image to look at hearts & arrows symmetry and it's also useful for seeing where the inclusions are positioned relative to the arrows.

Thanks TC1987 for your reply,

Wow, there is quite a discrepancy between the websites. B2Cjewels by far had the most selection. When I put in my criteria 101 diamonds came up within the 6-9k price range.

It's just so overwhelming though which diamonds are the top choices (out of the 101)?!?!

If anyone could help me pick out the top choices out of these that'd be great :D .

Also I have no idea have to read an aset image or what that is in order to pick out leakage.....

Thats funny, I only had 1 pop up when I put in all the criteria...I selected VS2 because they dont have images of their
stones so there is no way to determine if they *may be* eye-clean. And...here it is...the table is large and there is no
grading report for it so...no information on it.

If I drop down to an SI1 I get 7 diamonds but like I said, no way to tell if they are eye-clean and none of them had reports loaded.

I agree with calling ID Jewelry and tell them what you are looking for. I think your budget is too tight for what you are looking for.

Remember you need to stick with GIA or AGS certs.

Re: newbie needs to order a diamond by tomorrow, please help

I would like to update my criteria to :

1.4-1.6 karat... (this should provide alot more options)

Also quick question, why does everyone reccomend IDjewelryonline.com so much? cheapest prices? best customer service? return policy? I'm comparing it to B2C because they seem very good as well...

Re: newbie needs to order a diamond by tomorrow, please help

They are very good at working on a tight budget...$9k is a generous budget but not when looking for a 1.5 stone. Going
up to a 1.6 isnt going to help. I checked JA already in the 1.4 range but I'll check again.

Re: newbie needs to order a diamond by tomorrow, please help

I used the personal shopper feature on the B2C website and these are the 4 that they suggested for my criteria:

http://www.b2cjewels.com/dd-3711548-1.50-carat-Round-diamond-J-color-SI1-clarity.aspx

http://www.b2cjewels.com/dd-2716767-1.51-carat-Round-diamond-J-color-VS1-clarity.aspx

http://www.b2cjewels.com/dd-3653440-1.51-carat-Round-diamond-I-color-VS1-clarity.aspx

http://www.b2cjewels.com/dd-3642495-1.51-carat-Round-diamond-J-color-VS2-clarity.aspx

Which of these 4 look the best to you?

Are there better options than these out there in your opinion?

Thanks!

Re: newbie needs to order a diamond by tomorrow, please help

1, 2, and 4 definitely out. 3 is borderline, it could work, needs a picture. (from your first round.)

Second round: 2 and 3, but again, they need pictures, due to the VG and G symmetry and the angle combo. The 1.52 J Very Thin girdle needs to be checked.

Re: newbie needs to order a diamond by tomorrow, please help

Problem is getting pictures and idealscopes can take time.

Here's one. Only 0.01 away from your size criteria. Great price. Seems eye clean and I'm sure Jon could tell you today if it is.

My avatar is only a. 84 ct but it is a K.

What setting should you set it in?

Re: newbie needs to order a diamond by tomorrow, please help

#1 from that 2nd list scores VG-EX-EX-VG HCA 1.0 within TIC excellent range. 1.51ct J SI1. It might not be a H&A? But might be worth looking at. (I didn't check the others. I just looked at this one because it had been through both GIA and EGL USA.)

EGL USA graded it:
Clarity VS2
Measurements 7.44 x 7.36 x 4.47 mm
Depth 60.4%
Table 57%
Crown 14.8%
Pavilion 42%
Crown Angle 34.5°
Pavilion Angle 40.2°
Girdle THIN TO SL. THICK FACETED
Polish VERY GOOD
Symmetry GOOD
Fluorescence FAINT BLUE
Culet N/A
Cut Grade N/A
Comments Girdle inscribed "EGL US 78863207D"

Re: newbie needs to order a diamond by tomorrow, please help

They're all nice. If you are on a time crunch, go with the 1.50 J SI1.
