Newbie needs help to choose a diamond.

Hi all,:angel:

I am having a difficult time choosing a diamond for engagement ring. I'm trying to search up based on bluenile and jamesallen but I found one on bluenile but I'm not sure this is right choice to buy it. Thank you! :wavey::wavey:

Hi Batddu and welcome!

The diamond you picked has potential but a couple of things. The proportions look good, but I'd want to make sure it's eye clean to your standards by asking one of their people with the stone in hand to describe it for you and also that the etch channel mentioned isn't a potential problem. Also there's a cloud plotted in the clarity grading, make sure that's not having a negative effect on brilliancy, again someone with the stone in hand can let you know.

This stone also has medium blue fluorescence, that's something I like personally. MB shouldn't cause any issues and I think it's a nice feature to have but that might not be you, just something to think about.

Batddu - why don't you tell us a little bit more about what you're looking for, and the knowledgeable folks here can help you. Maybe the stone you posted is the perfect option, maybe there are other alternatives you should consider.

What's your budget, what is most important to you, what kind of setting are you considering, etc.? For example, I think that stone might not be eye clean from the side if you were doing a more open setting.

This would be a "no" for me. The inclusions are black, on the surface and concentrated. Too visible.

This is a really poorly taken video and the light being used is making the diamond look that color. The angles are good and its a GIA I, which means the color is mostly detectable from the side}

This has good angles and the two inclusions I pointed to with the red arrow are likely to be covered with a prong. The yellow one will be visible, but it may be eye-clean if you take into consideration that that diamond is only about the size of a #2 pencil eraser.}

Thank you for your replying. I'm looking for round cut with 0.90 to 1 carrot and $5000USD is my budget. I'm going to setup on solitaire silver band.

Silver as in sterling silver, 925? Not a great idea for a diamond ring. Silver is just too soft for daily wear with gemstone like this. If you look at older silver settings with prongs, they are chunky and thick. And...many are repaired over time.

Do you mean white gold? Is the $5000 including the setting?

Thank you! I definitely check these options.

Sorry. I mean white gold :), the $5000 is without the setting.

Whew! All the stones I posted are in budget. From JA, you can request up to 3 IS (idealscope) images per email from which the request originates. WF posts theirs. BN won't provide them. An idealscope or ASET provides you with a image of the actual light return from the diamond.

Have you looked at diamonds with your intended? Did she give any feedback on diamond color? What does your girl do professionally? What about her hobbies? Is she the kind of girl that has to match "just" the right shade in nails, clothes, paint? Is she in an artistic field? Does she use words like "ecru, greige and sandstone" or are they all beige? That can give you some insight on her color acuity.

Most people begin to see body color in a diamond at GIA I. But, not everyone minds color and would prefer size over color. Its individual. I cut-off color at I for the list above.

How about this one?

The angles are good, although I prefer a smaller table (under 37.5). My major concern would be if the clouds noted in the comments impact light return (think of a snow globe, where the light is scattered by all those little bits in the diamond...light not returned to the viewer is lost and can make the diamond dark in the middle). Combine clouds with all the twinning wisps, it makes me worry with an SI2. This diamond really needs a gemologist to review it. Start with an IS request. If they can't get an IS, I'd hesitate on this one.

What has your intended expressed about a diamond? Has she talked about color or size?

We went to local jewellery stores and they showed us 0.7 and 1 carat. We talked about diamonds with each other and she doesn't care about the color/clarity but she sounds like want to get bigger diamond than 0.7 carrot. I want to buy her a diamond in better condition but whenever I see diamonds on the internet, It's so hard to find one myself. :think::think:

I found this one today. How's it?

This is a beautiful choice!! I'll see what else I can find but this is really nice and I'd advise you put it on hold.

This isn't much larger than the .91 if you look at the dimensions (since the depth on that stone is 60 and the CA/PA are not steep), but if it's at all important for you to hit the carat mark, this is a nice stone and should be just about $5k with the $100 referral code and PS discount and/or 3% wire discount: https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-di...i-color-vs2-clarity-excellent-cut-sku-4233150

JA also has 25% off their settings right now.

@batddu are you in the US? If not, have you factored in VAT taxes/customs/duties for shipping internationally? You're going to get a far nicer stone from one of the online vendors recommended here than you would locally, even within the US.

Just checking if import fees might be a consideration for you.
