Hello, I''m interested in proposing to my girlfriend in the very near future and it''s time that I purchase a ring/diamond. I''ve been doing research on the web, particularly with the helpful posts on this forum; however, I must admit, the amount of information can be overwhelming.

My budget is fairly limited as I''ll be graduating soon (have to love those student loans). Luckily, my girlfriend doesn''t seem interested in larger sized diamonds, as she''s not accustomed to wearing jewellery at all and doesn''t really want something that stands out too much. I''ve been looking around and I found a few princess-cut diamonds at BlueNile (from 0.5ct to 0.75ct) and based on my limited knowledge I was wondering if I could have people''s opinions on the stone. I''ve decided to go with the platinum trellis setting (as I believe it''s similar to Tiffany''s Lucida ring-- something she mentionned that she liked). I realize you guys get these questions a lot, and always seem happy to reply, therefore, I am very grateful for any help or assistance.

Anyway, I''ve posted links to the various stones I picked:

I look forward to your comments, criticisms and suggestions.

Best regards.

JulieN-- I really like that stone. Thank you very much for pointing it out to me. I'll strongly consider it. I guess I overlooked it due to the flourescence and the culet (seems I still have a lot to learn). I also emailed BlueNile about the report on d.

If you or anyone else have any other suggestions please let me know.

Best.

fluorescence is considered to be a positive trait by many. i love it, my stone does glow blue in sunlight. :) it should make an H look whiter as well.

There is this http://www.exceldiamonds.com/diamond/23172.html

It's bigger than the H VS2 from BN, and 700 less! That'd be enough extra to get you the Vatche. (I don't like the BN trellis as much.)

Only thing is it's a touch rectangular, at 1.05 l/w. That's the max to be considered "square" by some, but for super picky people, keep it under 1.03 or 1.02. And the bigger the stone, the more the ratio is exaggerated, but this stone is about 5mm. Once it's set, it should look pretty square.

Do you have a budget for the whole enchilada? I was kinda working off of 3K.

That is a nice diamond as well, and I''ve actually been puzzled over the trellis vs the Vatche x-prong. I guess my biggest concern is that that vatche would take 3-weeks to be sent and I don''t have that sort of time.

You are right in the ballpark of what I wanted to spend, give or take.

Thank you again

yes, princess is what she wants :)
