Hi all!

I''ve been lurking and researching here on pricescope for a lil bit, and need some help deciding which is the superior stone and why from the experienced ones (you know who you are.)

Here are the two stones I need help deciding on:

http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/2198/

1.19ct F SI1
Cut: Ideal
Polish: Ideal
Symmetry: Ideal
Fluorescence: Negligible
Width: 6.86mm
Length: 6.89mm
Depth: 4.20mm
Table Percentage: 54.96%
Depth Percentage: 61.09%
Crown ∠: 34.18°
Pavilion ∠: 40.83°

HCA score 1
$8124.75

1.24ct H VS1
Cut: Ideal
Polish: Ideal
Symmetry: Ideal
Fluorescence: Strong
Width: 6.95mm
Length: 6.97mm
Depth: 4.27mm
Table Percentage: 55.23%
Depth Percentage: 61.29%
Crown ∠: 34.42°
Pavilion ∠: 40.85°

HCA Score 1.2 if I round the pav angle to 40.8 and 1.4 if I round up to 40.9, maybe it should be 1.3 if it''s 40.85? lol
$8558.99

The 1.19ct F SI1 has been confirmed as eye clean, but Rhino also suggested that I take a look at the 1.24ct H VS1. My only concern is the strong blue fluorescence, and I am more sensitive to color, and think that VS1 clarity is overkill. I just need help choosing the superior stone in all lighting environments with great overall balance.

Welcome to pricescope! I'm not that experienced, but I think they both look like nice diamonds. I agree with you, why pay for a VS1 if you've found an eye clean SI1? Personally I wouldn't be concerned about the strong blue fluorescence though. From what I've read on this forum, many people really like strong fluorescence in diamonds. My F diamond has medium blue and I wouldn't even know if it weren't on the certificate. Is there a reason that Rhino likes the second stone better?

I would be a little leery of the strong blue flouro. My diamond also has medium flourescence and it is quite obvious in direct sunlight. The diamond glows a light violet color. Very pretty, but not for everyone. Since I can tell quite easily with just medium, I would think strong could be quite obvious. Rarely, the strong flouro. will also cause the diamond to appear cloudy.

Thanks for the replies.

I think Rhino suggested the 1.24 H VS1 because it''s similar to the stone I am returning http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/270/ , and it is also cut from the same top h&a factory that cut the 1.19 F SI1. I am trading for one of these two, and need help deciding, or unless there is another stone in that price range with similar parameters. The stone I am returning is also an eye clean F SI1, however it seemed a bit off balanced in different lighting conditions and looked a little dark under the table, and I wasn''t completely taken by the way it sparkled. I''m somewhat concerned about the feather on the girdle on the 1.19 F SI1, but optical performance and the way the stone sparkles and emits its personality is my biggest priority.

I am doubtful that Jonathan would sell a diamond with flourescence that was a problem, so I''d think the H stone would be fine. It would be my preference between these two, and in fact I''d probably be buying it myself if it were a couple mm larger!

Yup, I think I will ask him tomorrow what he thinks about the blue fluorescence and decide from there. Diamondseeker2006, how come you would choose the 1.24 H VS1 with strong blue fluorescence over the 1.19 F S1 without? Just curious...

Well, I currently have an F SI2. The color is nice but I don''t like SI inclusions..that''s just my personal preference. H color faces up very white and I can''t tell much difference between an F and an H. I know with VS the inclusions will be extremely minor even when looking with a loupe, which I sometimes do. So for my anniversary ring, I am mainly targeting H VS1 or close to it.

Greetings all!

My fiance and I decided to get married not too long ago. Lucky for us, Good Old Gold is just one click away...so hella close they can throw stones at us. Hooray!

Anyway, I just wanted to make a post in regards to my indecisiveness on these 3 stones for a minor trade-in upgrade and the systematic approach to Good Old Gold's multifaceted service that exceeded my expectations with aplomb:

1. I was given multiple photos comparing the 3 stones side by side, and the level of thoroughness in regards to all the parameters for each stone was made easily understandable.

2. Then, they personally took the time to analyze all 3 stones throughout the day in as many lighting environments as possible with opinions from basically each and every staff member, after the fact that I had asked them beforehand--talk about patience!

3. Finally, they put to rest any doubts that I had when they got in-store poll opinions, further pinpointing which product was the most popular to the eye, the 1.24 F SI1 that I had first chosen.

The RockStar service combined with absolutely the most detail oriented profiling for each stone in the loose diamond business along with the best policies, solid inventory, and competitive prices spotlights that Good Old Gold continues to raise the bar.

I''m not an expert on the dimensions for rounds, but I personally have a F/SI1 and I love it. If it''s eyeclean, it''s good enough for me. I didn''t want to pay for a VS2 (although I did for my mom''s cushion).

If it''s truly eye-clean, I''d go with the SI1. But it''s what mind clean for you. BTW, my mom''s cushion is an H. I got to compare our two rings in detail and I could not for the life of me tell the color difference, even though I always thought I was color sensitive. Part of the problem is that both our rings have basket settings, so I couldn''t get a clear view from the side, but what I could see looked the same to me. I held both of them up to a white piece of paper and after staring a long time, I could see the faintest bit of warmth in the H. But I was also seeing stars, so who knows...

French Laundry eh? A fan of the restaurant? Always wanted to check it out, but haven''t been up that way yet. Go figure I love to travel, but I haven''t really explored parts of my own state yet!
