Hello,

This is my first time posting on a forum ever, so bare with me please!

Is this a good stone? I am trying to self educate but I know I cannot compete with the experience on this forum, I feel like I am missing something major here.

Shape: Princess
Carat: 0.7
Colour: D
Clarity: VS1
Cut: Very Good
Polish and Symmetry: Very Good
Girdle: Medium
Table: 68%
Depth: 64.4% (3.33mm)
5.37x5.17x3.33

I want to be proud of the diamond I choose, and I want it to exhibit the fire and brilliance of a good stone.

I am so anxious about selecting this diamond, any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Kathy

Oh dear! 55 views and no replies.. ouch!

:wavey:

I could really use some thoughts here :P

Post any image available, preferably an ASET image. Only AGS grades the cut performance of a princess, no other labs does that so any cut grades assigned to a non AGS lab graded diamond is by the vendor and can mean anything or nothing, depending on how the vendor arrives at the grade.

You cant judge princess cuts by the numbers. Like SC said...post a link, images and aset images and we'll have a look.
One small pointer is that we usually like to keep the table smaller than the depth. If you give us your
budget and color/clarity needs we can see what we can find for you.

Here are some ideal cut princess stones in the colorless range and VS clarity so you can see what we are talking about:

You will also note that these stones are almost perfectly square whereas the one you listed is not at 5.37 X 5.17mm.

Thanks for your advice,

I don't have a photo, it was off Blue Nile. I have decided to not go with it as I am not prepared to take the gamble.

Thanks for your suggestions, but I am afraid they are a bit out of my price range.

I have since found this diamond,
http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/F-VS2-Premium-Cut-Princess-Diamond-1433949.asp?a_aid=dmnd1357
Do you think this is a good selection?
If you have any suggestions from James Allen under $2700 that you think are better than this please send them in my direction, I would love to have a look!

Thanks!
Kathy

Re: Newbie needs help deciding if this is the diamond for he

Im sorry Tyty333 I forgot to add

I am looking for the best princess cut diamond I can get for $2700.

Colour: Above F
Clarity: Preferably above vs2, but certainly eye clean.

Above all, I just want it to be lively!

Thanks again,
Kathy

A little over your price range but a top cut stone - doesn't get much better than this!

great find!

Re: Newbie needs help deciding if this is the diamond for he

Hi,

I don't doubt it is a great find but it really is out of my budget  which is strict.

Because we will be ordering to Australia, my partner and I are more than likely going to buy through James Allen or Blue Nile (which is less likely now because of what you have told me about photos). Is there any reason why you think I shouldn't go with them?

Re: Newbie needs help deciding if this is the diamond for he

If you register with Whiteflash, you get an additional discount. This one is $400 over your budget but the discount could cut that down some.

I would never steer you away from Blue Nile or James Allen. I would, however, recommend that you get the best cut stone that you can. As Stone Cold says, AGS lab is the only lab that grades cut performance for princess stones so you have a better chance of those stones being best performers. Those stones would be lively!

Re: Newbie needs help deciding if this is the diamond for he

Thanks for the pointers, 3% is a good discount but the ring I built still totaled $4689.02 even with a $98.91 discount.

My max budget is $2700. I think I may stick to this diamond at James Allen for now which I feel is comparable but I can stay well under budget with. It is GIA certified but I think that is still ok since I have seen the photo at least! :|

What are your thoughts about the truth about diamonds website? I feel like I have gotten alot of good guidance from there also and was curious as to what your thoughts are?

Hi,

I thought I would share the complete e-ring we ended up with, I have already shared it in a thread so I thought I would just paste the link to that post.
