Hello everyone,

I''ve just recently started shopping for a diamond for an e-ring. I''m in no hurry to buy, but I''m looking for some good advice. I did find the following stone on Amazon.com (who I''m a little skeptical of) for $5780, however I can''t see the actual stone or certificate. This stone has the cut, color, clarity that I''m looking for. Does anyone have any experience buying from Amazon, or would you recommend sticking with the vendors from this site, who all seem highly regarded? The only similar stone that appeared when I searched Pricescope was a 1.27, I, SI1 from James Allan that was $6400. Thanks.

Welcome!

I would pass on the diamond above as it is too deep for my liking - but to get a complete picture the crown and pavilion angles are needed. Too much depth is undesirable as it can make a diamond look small for the weight amongst other things. I would definitely suggest you look at some of the trusted PS vendors - if you give us a list of your requirements and budget for the diamond we could post some diamonds which might suit you?

Thanks for the quick reply!

I was looking to spend between 6-7k for the diamond. I am more concerned with the size which is why I color seemed like a good choice. I am not really concerned with the clarity as long as the stone is eye clean, which is why I had originally picked an SI1 stone. Thanks in advance for your help.

AGS provides such great information on their certs, and you don''t even get to see it before buying this way! I would not buy a stone sight unseen without

A) a good return policy (SI1 does not have to be eye-clean in this size)
B) being able to view the cert so you can plug the numbers into the HCA here (Cut Adviser under Tools)

You say this stone has the cut you want, but you really have no way of knowing how it''s cut without knowing the rest of the cut measurements. Knowing the table and depth is like knowing just the height and weight of a woman. It can give you a sense of what she looks like but will never tell the whole story.
