newbie looking for feedback

Hello, I''ve been viewing these forums for a couple weeks now, it seems my new interest is jewelry. There is a lot of knowledge here and I''m just starting to understand gems. I recently bought my girlfriend what I thought was a "decent" ring. But after much study I''ve come to realize that it may have a pretty design, but the diamonds are nothing special. Actually I''ve come to realize that they are not anything really at all. I2-I3 diamonds. I made the purchase at Jared jewelers and I hear lots of criticism about buying from chain jewelers. Even though I know lots of people loathe pricing at chain stores, I found another ring that I fell in love with. My recent purchase:

Getting to my topic, I''m looking to get my girlfriend a necklace or earrings. I wanted to buy a diamond / diamonds online to put into a necklace or earrings, but my question is where can I find earrings and or necklaces that do not have stones in them already, waiting to have a stone mounted? I''ve seen studded earrings without the stone, but I''m just curious where I can find them, and how I get the diamond mounted?

I was wondering if there was any cool designs to chose from than just a generic stud for earrings and or necklaces. any help would be great.

Quick question, If I''m buying gems for .50 ct. or less should I stick to Jared jewelers or do I have the right idea for picking out diamonds online for that size. I just want good fire and a nice cut. Which seems like I need to buy Leo diamonds or Hearts Desire line if i purchase from Jared, and from what i read those really aren''t really the way to go for price.

Any help would be great thanks.

It really depends on what you are looking for, but generally I like Pearlmans Jewelers, Solomon Brothers, and Firenze Jewels for browsing. You need to make educated purchases no matter what you buy, but these are some of my favorite sites for ideas and eye candy. I would, without hesitation, by from Pearlmans as well.

If you want quality pieces with nice designs the best thing you can do is browse to get ideas. Then post and ask for our opinions and recommedations of similar items until you get some experience under your belt. And for colored stones... venture over the colored stone boards.

the ring i purchased before i purchased the one i linked above has an issue. My girlfriend has been wearing the ring for three months now, and two weeks ago i took it in because one of the diamonds fell out. The person I was working with knew my father very well and she decided to replace the diamond and give a 6 month warranty for free. On the repair sheet it said, replace stone and check others. About a week and a half later (yesterday) another stone fell out in a different place. I need some advice what should i do, and what i should ask from Jared. Clearly a stone falling out in the first two to three months is really unacceptable, but for two to fall out within the same two weeks after a repair....

really the stones aren't big, but the least they could do is replace it.

ooh i'm so sorry to hear of your problems with the ring, I thought that there is a lifetime warranty on their diamond and setting- Big selling point from the SA .. as long as you have it checked every so often? but correct me if I'm wrong maybe only for egagement ring? I don't know, as I only asked them about egagement rings and diamond
