I''ve been infected with diamond fever.
I tried to look up past posts, but was unable to locate what I needed. Can you "pros" give me some advice?
I am looking to purchase a 1.86 ct radiant E, SI or I from a local jeweler. Great price (a little unbelievable). There is a small feather inclusion near the side of the stone, but knowehere near an edge where it can crack. It is VERY difficult to see with the naked eye, because it happens to fall right along the edge of two facets, and the stone has to be about 5 inches from your eye to see it.
The jeweler seems honest enough, but it''s my understanding that anything over 1 ct you want a GIA certificate to verify the stone.
My question is :
How do I request the stone be certified prior to sale? Does the jeweler add the extra cost on top of what he quote me?
If the report comes back and the color/clarity/cut is less than what was originally stated by the jeweler, how do I proceed to lower his price? or vice versa?
None of his loose stones have certificates. He has many nice stones, so I am interested to find out how this process works when you ask the jewler to send the stone out for certification prior to sale.
Thank you!
So many diamonds, so little funds.....
