I have found a couple of diamonds that I am very interested in. I have been doing my research for a couple of months and I feel I have a good idea of what I am looking for.

Both of them are from the same online vendor, both GIA certified, cut dimensions are very similar, the cut analysis tool gave the following (basically) on both.

Factor Grade
Light Return Excellent
Fire Excellent
Scintillation Excellent
Spreador diameter for weight Very Good
Total Visual Performance 1 - Excellent
within TIC range

Here are the additional specs:

0.86

Ideal

E

SI1

EX/EX

$4,007

0.82

Ideal

F

VS2

EX/EX

$3,385

So Guess my questions would be:
1. am I better off going for a higher clarity or higher color?
2. Can you really tell the difference between an E and an F?
3. Can you really tell the difference between .82 and .86?
4. Can the naked eye generally see the difference between vs2 and si1?

Thanks for your help.

1. am I better off going for a higher clarity or higher color?
This is your personal preference. There is only 1 grade difference in any case for both clarity and colour. I''d say pick whichever one is cheaper.

2. Can you really tell the difference between an E and an F?
No. And most can''t unless the stone is unmounted and upside down, viewed from the side on white paper. Then again, it is very difficult and how often does one do that?

3. Can you really tell the difference between .82 and .86?
I doubt. Also, remember that 0.82 anf 0.86 are carat weights. To know the actual size difference, look at the dimension measurements, as in mm x mm x mm. Depending on the depth of the stones, the 0.86 could be the same physical dimension (or smaller) than the 0.82

4. Can the naked eye generally see the difference between vs2 and si1?
Most likely no. If the SI1 is eye clean, then no. Depending on individual stones, some SI1 might have an inclusion that can be viewed from the side when looking up close.

You''d need to list more of the specs on those stones. What certificate do they have? The F VS2 price looks a little low. I''d like to see if the cut is really ideal and if they are really the color they say...as in, I hope they have GIA or AGS certs.

So...can I say...all things being equal, I prefer #2?

Thanks for the replies. I think I am leaning towards number 2 also. The specs are as follows:
Table: 56
Depth: 61.7
Pavilion: 40.8
Crown: 34.0
Girdle: Medium
Cutlet: None

It is GIA certified and comes with a Dossier report. It is laser inscribed.

According to the GIA Report.

Clarity Characteristics: Cloud, Crystal Finish
Measurements: 5.99 x 6.03 x 3.71
Polish: Excellent
Symmetry: Excellent
Fluorescence: None

Does it sound like a good deal? I have it on hold as of now. I would want to put it in a 4 prong platinum solitaire band.

Thanks in advance,
Paul
