Hello
I've been lurking here for a few months and with all this talk of diamonds...well, I got a little crazy and went and bought myself an itty bitty stone.

My goal is to have it set as a RHR in halo setting.

I'm wondering if I got a good deal, and if any reputable appraiser/jeweler would even want to deal with something this small.

Here's what I know about the ring (or should I say, what I've been TOLD)

Size: .50ct
Color: F
VS-2
Radiant Cut
4.41mm x 4.33

Okay, the truth is I purchased it on Ebay.(Dumb move, right??) From a dealer that has a 100% feedback. I did do a little research on him and he appears to be reputable.

The diamond did not come with an appraisal. If I wanted an EGL, it would have been an additional $100.

To my untrained eye, it appears to be really white and sparkles like mad.

I was the high bidder (in the last few seconds of the auction) and got the ring for $600. Either I got the deal of the century or I threw $600.(plus tax!) out the window.

The setting is 14k white and I KNOW it's not a good one. I dont plan on wearing it until I get it re-set...If in fact it's even worth it.

What do you great diamond folks think? Did I get a deal? Is it worth having appraised? Reset? Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance..!

take it to an appraiser asap and find out what you really have.

That is still about half of the price of such a stone... leaving the setting on the side. The size is relatively small for half a carat and this would account for some discount, but not quite that much. For as estate sale such a price cut is not uncommon, coming from a professional seller it would make me wonder.

Basically, second Strm.

I doubt the spec very much. And it might be that this wasn''t one of your best buys.

I would probably wear it in its present setting, and consider buying a different diamond for the project you have in mind.

If you are unhappy with the diamond you can always list it back on Ebay, and try to recover some of your money (just a thought)

Thanks Valeria..
Is there a way to know what size a .5ct radiant stone is supposed to be? Is there a standard or a chart somewhere?
Thanks for responding!
