I''ve been reading a lot on this site and gotten some great insights!

I had selected the following princess cut diamond for a custom Halo setting:

Price: $3,853.00
Report: GIA
Shape: Princess
Carat: 1.0
Color: G
Clarity: SI1
Depth: 72.1
Table: 69
Girdle: VTN-VTK
Polish: Ex
Symmetry: Good
Culet: None
Fluorescence: No
Measurements: 5.47*5.38*3.86
Length/Width: 1.02

I came into a little extra cash that I am considering adding to the e-ring purchase. I saw the following diamond and wanted to get people''s thoughts on wheather it looks like I''d really be adding any value for the price.

Priorites:
1- Cut best cut for the $
2- Color - Whitest possible when set for the $
3- Ct- ~1 Ct seemed to fit the original budget. Above 1.4cts with a halo of princess cuts @ ~.025cts would start to look a little large for her hand
4- Clarity - SI1 seemd to be the best bang for the buck - going for eye clean.

Price: $4,753.00
Report: GIA
Shape: Princess
Carat: 1.27
Color: H
Clarity: SI1
Depth: 73.4
Table: 70
Girdle: VTK
Polish: Good
Symmetry: Good
Culet: None
Fluorescence: No
Measurements: 6.02-5.63X4.13
Length/Width: 1.07

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

I am certainly no expert and princess cuts can be hard to judge by the numbers, but I don't see any big red flags with the info you have posted so far on those two stones. I agree that SI1 is a good deal if eye clean and personally I wouldn't go any lower than H in color as I think it is more noticable in fancy cuts. I would also avoid a very thin girdle in princess cuts as they are more prone to chipping. In my opinion I would get the bigger one, but you certainly want to have the chance to look at it in person before you are committed to keep it. It is a little less rectangular and I don't know if that would effect your design. It sounds like you are designing a lovely ring!
