Hi guys, been lurking for a few weeks trying to learn as much as I can before purchasing my first engagement ring. I know the exact A.Jaffe setting my girlfriend wants, but just not sure what a good price is for this particular setting since not many places carry A.Jaffe. The setting is this one in platinum and .20 carats of side stones.

I have been quoted from $2,695-$3,000 for this ring and not sure if I can find lower than $2,695 or if that is already a decent deal. $2,695 seems awfully high for this setting even though it is designer. Any help would be appreciated.

While we are at it what do you guys think of this diamond for the price. Can I get better for a budget around $7,000 for the center stone? Thanks so much.

hi and welcome to PS. Have you called Pearlmans for quote? They are the only PS vendor that I know of that carries A jaffe and their pricing is very competitive. Just be sure to tell them you''re from Pricescope.

if you can get the crown and pavilion angle''s on the diamonds that would be helpful

Because of the astronomical, steady rise in metal prices over the last six months, I'm afraid this is likely the typical price you'd pay for a piece like this.

Keep in mind the Euroshank design requires more metal...which drives up the cost.

Thanks for the quick reply. Yes I did get a quote from Pearlman''s but did not mention I knew of them from pricescope. Their quote was around the middle of the range that I posted. The crown is 36 and pavillion 41. I plugged in the numbers on the HCA tool and got by a visual perfomance of 6.1-fair. Im guessing that is not good?

I noticed you are from whiteflash? Maybe I can consider doing a custom replica. Will it be substantially cheaper to go this route?

I would email Whiteflash and I bet they could help you www.whiteflash.com . I love the ring you are considering.

Have you seen the Legato pave ring?

Hi, I have been using Solomon Brothers for my diamond and setting and they by far have had the best price in my search. They don''t have this style listed on the website but they carry A. Jaffe so they should be able to order it. Also, most of the same diamonds they list(GIA) are the same as the other Pricescope vendors and they are cheaper than all the others even with the discount included and they have a full price trade in for life if you buy a diamond there. Make sure to ask for Howard Solomon, he is fantastic and very helpful and one of the three brothers. DON''T deal with one of the floor associates! The number is listed at the top of their page...http://www.solomonbrothers.com/Default.aspx

Good Luck!

I don''t know if A Jaffe does them, but sometimes I''ve seen vendor "shows" - can''t recall the right term - at a jewelry store, where then vendor, like Simon G, will bring their whole line to a jewelry store that carries them, and usually you will get about 20% the normal price at those events. If a jeweler in your area carries A Jaffe, you might ask if that''s a possibility.

Hi Old Fashioned Girl, is it a Trunk show your thinking of?

Let them know you are from pricescope. they will also pricematch any advertised price you can find on a setting they carry plus will give you an additional 10% off if you find a setting cheaper.

As for going custom. The design is simple enough that it would be worth it to call around Whiteflash, engagementringsdirect etc. for custom quotes but like Allison said, the cost of metal is high right now so custom may not really save you much.

Yes, that''s it! Sorry my brain sludge couldn''t think of the term. I didn''t realize until recently how much you can save by getting a ring at a trunk show.

hello!
i just bought this exact ring here in Toronto for $940!! it is regular price for $1300 but then they gave me a percentage off because i bought the centre diamond from them too.
I bought it from Damiani Jewellers ...they do have a website you can visit, but im not sure ifyou can order off their site. $2695 is crazyyyyyyyy! you can definitely find it cheaper than that! i saw it on the robson bros. website for about $1000-$1400 as well.... the exact same ring!

As for the centre stone you mentioned...everything is really good about the diamond BUT there is a fluorescence in the diamond...meaning there is some colour to it! that is probably why it''s really cheap..if your girlfriend wants a colorless diamond..then i wouldn''t go for it..

If it scored a 6.1 on HCA there''s very little "good" about it.

Secondly, flourescence has NOTHING to do with adding colour to the diamond. It might in fact negate some color. That''s not why it''s cheap.

I''m sure you meant well, but please research and learn a bit more before you start passing around opinions.
