First off, this is my first post. For some reason the forum search here on Pricescope doesn''t work for me so I apologize if this has already been covered.

From what I have read it seems that VS2 grades (GIA) are almost always 100% "eye clean", but there can be an instance where you will be able to see an inclusion with the naked eye. I am curious to know if anyone has had an experience with a VS2 diamond where the inclusion was quite apparent. I ask because I am have ordered a VS2 online, due to time constraints I couldn''t have it looked at first but I do have a 30 day return window. Also, how much of a gap is there really between VS2 and SI1.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Welcome to Pricescope!

This has been covered a lot, so I''m sorry you can''t do the searches for it. Here is a good thread that will hopefully answer any questions. (I''m assuming you can access the thread)

here is the thread.

Basically, a VS2 you should not be able to see any inclusions ever, except with a loupe. An SI stone also shouldn''t be able to see inclusions. But, you may come across some SI stones that you will see the inclusions, especially if you know what you''re looking for. The best term to go off of, I find, is "eye-clean". The above thread also gives info on that.

Good Luck!

Hi and welcome to PS.

Did you ask the vendor you ordered from if it was eye clean?? Do you have pics?? Most times a VS2 is eye clean, but always best to ask the vendor to eye ball it for you, assuming you ordered a stone that is in house???

No, not on a GIA graded stone. VS2 is a very nice grade, eyeclean faceup.

Unfortunately the vendor couldn''t get a visual on the stone because it wasn''t in house. To get that would have taken about 24-48 hours. I had to order without the visual due to time constraints to make sure I get delivery by this weekend.

Thanks for the help.

P.S. By the way, I have been researching and looking as stones for awhile so I didn''t just order on a whim. The specs are below for any comment.

Carat weight: 1.02
Cut: Ideal (GIA Excellent)
Color: I
Clarity: VS2
Depth %: 60.7%
Table %: 59%
Symmetry: Excellent
Polish: Excellent
Girdle: Medium, faceted
Culet: None
Fluorescence: None
Measurements: 6.48 x 6.51 x 3.94 mm

Price: $4,483

so what is the cause for the rush? care to share your big weekend plans?

also for future purchases, the buisness should be able to call the person who is selling the diamond to them and they can have someone look at it, even blue nile had the whole seller look at diamonds for me, and they are notorious for not wanting to do anything but push numbers

of course that brings into question reliability though. And you shouldnt have anything to worry about in a VS2 inclusion, except perhaps from the side against a light colored background at certain angles and if the inclusion is black and concentrarted in one location...alot of ifs in that, and even if all those conditions were met, its probably not something she would find on her own unless she was really anal about inspecting her diamond. All my fiance ever does is stare at it from the top though

so I dont think you have anything to worry about in that regard

Actually I had a stone with all the same specs picked out, only difference being it was an SI1. I had a visual done on it and it came back eye clean so I was set to buy it today. A last minute search brought up the VS2 in my price range ($200 more) which hadn''t been there before today and I decided go for it over the SI1. I need delivery by this weekend so I can have it appraised on my only free time (Saturday). Over labor day weekend I''m planning the proposal which is in Mexico so I also don''t want to push it and be getting the ring last minute since the whole trip revolves around the ring!!!!

Thanks again to everyone for their input. Everyone here is so friendly.

Good Luck and have a great trip!

You should check into insuring the ring before you go. I''m hoping that''s what the appraisal is for.

BTW-what setting are you getting?

Post pics if and when available!!

Yes, please get it insured as soon as you get your appraisal done.

Hi & welcome!

You should be fine with a RB cut & a VS2; I had a VS2 princess that was eye-clean from the top but I could easily pick out the inclusion (white feather) from the side. Clarity is graded from the top so in some instances (esp in fancy shapes), you will be able to see the inclusion from the side in a VS2. Good luck with the proposal!!

It seems to me that VS2s can still be an issue when dealing with step cut stones (emerald, asscher) as opposed to brilliant cut stones. Not usually an issue with brilliant cuts on the whole.

Thanks again to everyone for their help. Here are some photos of the ring on my masculine hand. I had it appraised this morning and he had a hard time finding the inclusions, he actually called it a VS1 before he saw the GIA report!! Definitely eye clean and the setting is awesome.

Here''s another in my yellow kitchen lighting.

Congrats, what a pretty ring! All the worry about the clarity and it turns out to be nearly VS1, that''s awesome! :)
