Hi, I''m new! I''ve been doing some research for my engagement ring (I''m not engaged yet, but my boyfriend and I are discussing...)

We''re on a budget, and I''ve been doing research on shapes that I like. i love Pear and Emerald.

So my question is, would a G color and VS2 color be acceptable for these two cuts? I have been able to find many sizable diamonds within our budget that are this color and clarity. Would these be a good value, if the other factors of the diamond are favorable? thanks!

It''s a combination I chose.

I think it''s a classic.

Like basic black.

Of course, the bigger...if you are more sensitive to either color or inclusions...the more of a question this raises. How sizeable are you talking?

Without more info...G VS2 are well regarded, classic, targets, I think.

For fancy cut stones like a pear, and a step cut like an EC, G VS2 is what I would recommend. Both are safe enough not to see anything with the naked eye (from the top only) and very white to the eye.

Depending on the size diamond you are looking at, as Ira says, this can make a difference too. I have a 2 ct pear which is an H and is very white, so you could broaden your options to an H and SI clarity even if the cut was good. But G VS is usually a safe choice in both shapes.
