hey guys,
I went out looking for a stone today and stopped by two independent jewelers in my area. My criteria for the search was:

(1) Budget: $9,000
(2) Weight: 1.0-1.5
(3) Color: D-G
(4) Clarity: SI2 Eye Clean or better

Here are some of the diamonds I was presented:

(A) 1.08ct Princess Cut 5.65 x 5.56 x 4.05 GIA#17478949
Carat Weight: 1.08
Color: F
Clarity: VS2
Polish: Very Good
Symmetry: Excellent
Fluorescence: None
Comments: Additional Pinpoints not shown
Table %: 67%
Depth%: 72.8%
Girdle: Medium
Price: $8850

(B) 1.51 Princess Cut (Diameter: 6.22-6.36) *No GIA on hand*
Carat Weight: 1.51
Color: G
Clarity: SI2
Polish: Good
Symmetry: very Good
Fluorescence: None
Table %: 72.3%
Depth%: 71.2%
Price: $9200

(C)1.23ct Round Brilliant (Diameter 6.86) *No GIA*
Carat Weight: 1.23
Color: f
Clarity: SI2
Polish: Excellent
Symmetry: Excellent
Fluorescence: None
Table %: 58%
Depth%: 63%
Price: $7480

Diamond letter "A" seemed to be the highest quality and had a GIA report on site which I liked. Diamonds "B" & "C" are from the same store. The prices seem a little high to me but I just wanted to get an opinion from the experts on this board. Today was just "Day One" of the search of local jewelers and I have in no way settled for any of these. Feel free to comment!

With the second and third diamonds, just to clarify that they are graded by GIA, the store didn''t have the reports available?

They did not have the GIA reports performed on those stones yet but the ratings were done "in House" (I would not accept this if I was serious about purchasing there). They said they could have them sent out to be graded by GIA. They are a reputable jeweler that has been in the community for over 20 years, I am not sure they are trying to be deceptive. I just don''t think they had the reports on hand......but I could be wrong. What about Diamond "A"? Any good for the price?

Oh I see, thanks!

Diamond A looks very expensive even for a brick and mortar store....Does the price include the setting? Online prices for similar are varying between $4300 and $5800 approx for a loose diamond, so you can see this one is considerably more.

No, this does not include the setting....

Too expensive in that case, try the Pricescope your Diamond search tool above, enter Princess and same carat weight, colour and clarity, hit all diamonds and you will see the prices come up.

Thanks for the tip! I put in the EXACT specs (color, clarity, Carat) of diamond "A" into the pricescope search tool and it did confirm my suspicion that it was a little bit on the high side.....
