Hi all..

I am new on price scope but have been browsing around over the last month or so. I have decided that I am going to propose to my gf sometime around Christmas. She knows it is coming, but dont know exactly when. I finally went with her yesterday to a local jeweler and we got her sized up and I also saw styles she likes etc. I have been trying to study up on the 4 c's and all of that good stuff. I want to make the best decision for value / appearance that I can afford with my budget. I havent worked up my budget yet but plan on it ASAP. Do I have enough time between now and Christmas time to find the perfect ring? We both saw a ring yesterday that seemed perfect. We both really liked it. It was from a designer called the "Sylvie Collection". It is a halo style ring with a princess cut diamond (cubic zirconia in it at the store) with diamonds down the side. When dealing with jewelers are they easy to work with on pricing / deals etc. I have looked on bluenile and whiteflash, but have yet to find anything that caught our eyes as much as this one we found. I have been talking locally to a guy who is on a hunting forum that I get on who's wife is the store manager at that store. He told me to ask for her if I go there to do my shopping. Suggestions or thoughts on where to start so that I can get this all ready for go time around Christmas time or so...

Welcome! My suggestion is to get the stone picked out as soon as possible. You can then decide if the vendor has a setting similar enough to the one she likes and have them set the stone. This is the easiest option. If they cannot provide one you like, then you can have the diamond sent to you and have the local jeweler order the setting and set it for you. The only downside to this is that most jewelers will not take responsibility for any damage to the stone during setting. This is why I prefer letting the diamond vendor also do the setting. Can you post a picture of the setting she likes? Someone can probably point you to similar ones as that is a common style.

I recommend choosing an AGS ideal cut princess stone. Vendors who carry them are Good Old Gold, WhiteFlash, and Brian Gavin.

If you have an idea of budget, size of stone and even the setting there are lots of poeple here who are happy to help you find what you are looking for. We might even throw a few different ideas in to the mix.
