As I have mentioned in another thread, I am stuck in Guatemala until thursday, because of the volcano and the storm. Which means that all my travel plans have gone down the drain (or, perhaps, are contributing to the flooding). Since I will miss the course I was enrolled in, I now have a week to fill. Any ideas? I am not much of an outdoors person, so no more than 2 or 3 consecutive days of parks, please!

My plans so far:

3/jun: leave Guatemala and arrive Houston

4 - 13/jun: ?????

14 - 15/jun: Williamsburg
16 - 19/jun: Washington, DC
20/jun: Alberta, Canada

I have a bus ticket from Asheville to Williamsburg, but I am willing to not use it if I have better plans elsewhere.

Can you move Williamsburg and DC up to the first leg of your trip? Would NYC interest you? If so, that would make sense on the latter part of your trip.

If not, do you prefer museums, beach, spa? How would you like to spend your time? Will you be driving/renting a car at all?

I haven't spent any vacation time in the south, but I know there are many better able to advise you here from the region. I hope they see your post.

I have both a meeting with a friend and a plane ticket (expensive to change) in Washington, so it is a bit hard to change that date, but Williamsburg is easy.

I love NY, but I wanted to see new places. I tend to enjoy history, culture and museum (with a bit of bargain shopping

). I like spectacular landscapes but I am not much of a beach girl or hardcore outdoors person (I nearly died climbing a mountaing the other day).

I love driving!

There are a few places you might go if you like pretty old things. The Biltmore is the largest home in America and is frankly an amazing place unlike anything else in the US. That is in Asheville, so if you already have a bus ticket, definitely go, you won''t find anything cooler along the way, IMO.

Between Huston and Asheville is New Orleans, which if you have never been would be a great way to spend some of the time you have. There is so much to do in NO I can only recommend you look at Frommer''s or another travel website to see what would be the most appealing to you.

I am really sorry about the class and I hope you get another chance is less than 2 years.
