New to Diamonds - Is this a good one & price?

I''m very new to diamonds.

My husband has a chance to purchase a .90 pt. diamond for $3376.00. All I know right is that it is I1I. They said the MFSRP wuold be $6752.00

Is this $3376.00 a good price? The store is going out of business.

I1? It might have flaws that are visable to your eye. Look at it first. To be honest, $3376.00 seems a bit high for an .90 I1 (unless it''s a D or an E color), but I haven''t seen it.

I would pass. According to the Pscope search, you could get a G/H .9 RB I1 for $2000-2500. Keep looking. And you want to make sure it''s eye clean. Personally I wouldn''t want an E I1, it seems kinda silly to get such a white diamond with potentially visible inclusions. Good luck!

Oh he''ll have that "chance" again and again, long after that store is out of business. Stick around on pricescope and we''ll find something much nicer for ya for $3376!

Here are two 0.90 I I1's for comparison:

#1 at $1931

#2 at $2176

Both of these stones have GIA reports and fairly normal table/depth percentages, so they should be at the high end of the range for stones of that quality. 50% more, and this is their going out of business sale? Does this stone have a report from a well-known lab? If not, it's more overpriced.

I would pass with a capital P!

Some ideas found by searching by cut: (I've listed the prices shown through the PS search engine, which often gives a discount)

0.90 I VS2 for $3198 It has a mediocre HCA score (4.0) but a good looking ideal scope image.

0.95 K SI1 for $2681

0.84 H SI2 H&A for $3246 says it's eye clean

1.03 J I1 H&A for $3486 I doubt it's eye-clean, but maybe the inclusions aren't too bad.

What does "appear white" mean. I see that on the forum and don''t know what it means.

It means how white the diamond will look. The color scale for diamonds starts at D and moves downward in the alphabet. People have different definitions of what a white diamond looks like. Some people think that a H diamond looks too yellow. Others think a J does indeed appear to be very white. Check out this link:

Hopefully we can break that uncomfortable feeling you have,( hahaha). Buying on line from reputable vendors (goodoldgold, whiteflash-among others here on PS) offer unbeatable deals found anywhere in B&M stores. In the end, yes, it is up to you, but I just wanted to give you my two cents and reassure you that it is safe and rewarding. Im buying my future fiance's E-ring online (Goodoldgold) and I have no fear whatsoever. There are even return policies if you are worried about that.
