Finally received my new blue! And a little orangey yellow to add to my bracelet project, but will update that on the bracelet thread.

I was going to make this a pendant but as soon as I got it on my hand I thought there is no way I can’t make it a ring.

Trillions or half moon sides?

Ooh, me likey!

Ooh, or even cushion sides as an echo.
Gah, I don't know, they'd all be choice!

Yep cushion sides could definitely work!

OMG LOVE THAT COLOR!!!!! I love the first two ring inspiration pics you posted - Hard to tell, but the first one might get a little ”high” with the sides stones sloped down that much. Are they rounds or “half moons”?

Half moons.

Oh yeah that has got to be on your finger. Gorgeous!

Oh that is just too awesome. I love that color. Where did this beauty come from?

So gorgeous - and I really love half moons!

Beautiful sapphire! I really like the third option, but all three are gorgeous :)

How can you post this without any details? =)2

LOL! It’s 5.13ct, 9.1mm by 8.7mm. Unheated Ceylon. The certificate (local lab) says cornflower blue but to me this is a darker hue than my idea of cornflower.

it’s eye clean with just one tiny feather in the bottom. Native cut with rather a fat belly as so many of these stones have. But I’m not going to mess with the cutting as I don’t want to lose weight and also I think often these local guys know their stuff and the stone loses personality and colour when it’s tidied into a more precision cut.

I think it’s perfect as it is. So little shadowing in direct sun, it’s really good. And if the feather is in the bottom, it’ll be safe once you set it. Definitely love the double claws look for this one!

Oooh yes!! Loving those pics.
The claws are going to have to be really carefully done.

Would you go for all white metal or yellow gold claws?

Just ordered these stunning Cadillacs from Ivy and Rose. It’s pretty dumb to pay up for D colour and VVS quality for a pair of side stones but I couldn’t resist.

Love the color!

gorgeous!!! love the color!

Given the ridiculous price of gold I think I might get this set in platinum. I never use platinum, always white gold. Any ideas of the pros and cons?

The only reason I got my wedding set in platinum was so I'd never have to deal with getting it re-plated  I think the rest is preference so not sure whether it's a pro or con but for example, some people love the patina'ed look of platinum over time and other's don't, or platinum is denser so if you're sensitive to it, it can feel a little heavier than the same setting in a gold version.

Does the ring not have more “kudos” if it’s set in platinum?! LOL!

So funny! I am waiting for a purple/pink cushion to arrive and was just looking at a pair of these so I could set it in a ring. My other thought was trapezoids but I haven't seen any pairs I liked.

My personal preference is to go with white metal whenever possible.

So you have anything in yellow gold you can put next to or under the sapphire so you can see it in person?

Yes I’ve tried both next to the stone and both look good. I honestly think white metal will look better but I’ve got so much white already. Especially in sapphires.

To me it does. I prefer the weight of platinum. It just feels more substantial aka quality, to me. Once hubby learned that gold sloughs and platinum does not, he feels like everything should be set in it. Having said that my opal and zircon are currently being set in yellow and rose 14k, so take my opinion for what it's worth, lol.

Having had both, platinum has a more "luxe" feel. It has more heft, and I actually really love the patina it develops. If you rhodium plate, platinum has a stronger color and does not look as whitish as rhodium. But I actually like the color. I would think this sapphire would look stunning in platinum and think those sides you got are going to be incredible!
