Hi all,

I just had a quick question. Can a new setting cause the diamond to have a different sparkle, color?
I had my fiance''s 1.75 round brilliant reset into a thin, micro pave setting. It was set in a 6 pronged simple platinum setting and now it''s in a 4 pronged platinum pave setting. I noticed it seems that the ring is not as "white" as before. I''m getting a little paranoid, but I''m pretty sure that it wasn''t switched because the vendor is a large, reputable NYC company. Any ideas? Thanks

I remember this ? in another thread. My only guess would be that the stone is now being "compared" visually to pave, which even if it is in a comparable color range, being smaller can sometimes look "whiter" ... where before, in a plain metal band, it wasn't being "compared".

What color is it again?

Also, if color is showing in the pavillion, more of the pavillion is revealed in a four prong setting than is in a six prong.

An indep. appraiser can compare the stone to the purported stats & tell you if it what it is supposed to be --- if you're very concerned.

ETA -- does the stone have a cert? GIA? AGS? Has it been insured yet? Appraised ever?

What color is the center stone and what color are the melee in the band? If the center stone is significantly lower in color than the pave melee, I suppose it''s possible you might be seeing the contrast between the two. That''s the only think I can think of.

the center stone is VS2, F color . . . the pave stones are quite small.

I have GIA and had it apprasied by IGI w/ the old setting. For piece of mind, I plan to have it repraised w/ the new setting.

I''m pretty sure it''s not switched, because it''s through Michael C Fina. But the different "color" is just making me paranoid. It seems there is more sparkle, but less whiteness?

Thanks.
