I am sitting here with a stomachache tonight because we finally took the plunge and purchased a diamond through Whiteflash. We had found a setting locally after looking for months - it is an A Jaffe which I really love. After working through a number of details, we decided to send the setting to Whiteflash to have them set the stone and the ring needed to be resized from a 7 to a 5 1/2. I verified with the jeweler where I purchased it and then also with Whiteflash to see that they could resize the ring without a problem - both gave remarkably similar answers - yes, as long as it is less than 2 ring sizes. It does have a euro shank again - no problem.
Well, as you might have guessed - there was a problem. The short story is - Whiteflash says they can''t size it. Although I wasn''t pleased, I figured we could have the jeweler do it here and then have the stone set - except while we were working through these issues - they set the diamond. They offered to un-set it, but we really don''t want to do that. So we are taking the ring - and we have re-contacted the jeweler and they said it was no problem to size. The reason I''m so nervous is because I felt that Whiteflash was very reputable and I can''t understand why they would''nt be able to size the ring.
Is it extremely difficult to size down so much? The setting also has some channel set diamonds. Here is the picture from Whiteflash:
I do trust the jeweler that will be sizing the ring - however, I''m afraid I won''t be able to see an identifying inclusion though a scope - would the flourescence of this diamond be a better identifier? Here is the diamond:

Did I mess this up? BTW this is a 20 anniversary upgrade that Hubby & I have been working on together - I''m a crazy researcher so I did a lot of lurking & learning here on pricescope before we made this decision - and now I wonder if we screwed up such a basic thing - the size!
