New puppy

Hi Fur baby lovers!!
Cole is growing like a weed. He’s brought so much love into the house:)
Question- now that I understand the entire process better, I realize that we bought Cole from a puppy mill.
The Google reviews are all good…..
What do y’all think about leaving an honest ( harsh) review of the place?
I never got Cole’s paperwork. We don’t know who sired him.
I’m torn because I don’t like leaving a negative review- but alerting the next person seems like the right thing to do.
Thoughts???

Oh, if you never got the papers, and were told that you would, I'd definitely leave a review assuming you followed up with the breeder and they still didn't respond. I think that is important information. Maybe instead of just negative info, also mention the positives, such as his great disposition, and anything else. I would probably leave out the itching only because you aren't sure of the cause and the vet didn't find any issue with that and it could have been the food. So kind of a pros and cons review that you feel is fair.

I never do negative reviews but would in this case. Not saying anything is allowing them to continue as they have, tacit approval if you will.

I agree that a pros/cons review is fair, and gives potential clients an opportunity to do their due diligence.

It's a real toughie to me.
We adore our dog. Thankfully, by now, he seems "normal" ( aside from the times he's bouncing off the walls like a puppy does)
We had a genetic DNA test, and he's negative for a common Aussie gene that has some negative implications.
Having said all that- if I was doing it again- more likely when we get another pup...
I would find someone who is a caring breeder.
Maybe I'm dreaming, but someone with one pair of dogs....
Or maybe we can adopt now that we have real world doggie experience.
But I can't think of anything positive to say about this guy other than he refunded $1k. It's really not a positive.
Anything we adore about Cole...it's not attributable to this guy......
Thinking of what we went through the first weeks....

PS_ heartfelt thank you guys for giving me sound well-thought-out out advice.

Ooooh, that sounds like well-deserved negative-review territory... :oops2:

So glad things are working out so well with the lovely wee Cole!

19.4 pounds ain't so "wee" anymore ( wish I could say the same about "wee" in general...'nother story)
He was at the vet yesterday and had another round of shots ....he's still tender where they jabbed him ( I had to leave the room) Poor baby.....

Weird weird.....
I was in Central Park last weekend.
Gazillions of folks out enjoying the day.
Now, of course every time I see an Aussie, I have to meet the dog and person.....
So, there's a very cute puppy. About a month older than Cole.
Start talking.....guess where she got her pup???
Yup.
SAME PLACE!!!
She was happy as a lark.

Yes leave a pros/cons review. I wouldn't support a puppy mill willingly. When we were in the dog show business we could get show quality dogs of any kind. Nowadays we can't at all. But puppy mills are unethical. Cole is beautiful of course, no matter what. And you're doing a great job taking him to the vet and getting testing done on your own. For us, one of the major problems in our breed can't even be tested for until 1 year old. Do what you can when you can for Cole.

If you decide to get another dog, you can usually find a list of "responsible breeders" on the club for the breed. They may also have a list of breed rescues if you are wedded to a particular breed. If you or your family are on Facebook, often there are pages for the breed rescues as well as rescues that are not breed specific. Sounds like you have become a dog family and I totally understand=)2

So we take Cole to Minnewaska State Park. It’s an idyllic spot near New Paltz.
A waterfall feeds this stream.
He was on leash most of the time. For a moment, I let him run free...(he comes back when we call him already)....he ran another 20 yards downstream, and there was a pool...maybe 4 feet deep he ran into....I was ready to jump in when his head went under- a second later he popped up and swam ( like he'd been doing that all his life) to the edge, climbed out and kept going without missing a step. Omg we’re so in love….

That's wonderful. And the fact that he comes back when you call is great. My dog won't do that outside, no matter what I try. And he likes water! Can you think about life without a dog now? I bet you can't.

next time you need a puppy just leave the back door open and some kibble out and you will get a stray cat in no time
all our cats have been strays at some point in their lives
who is worse a puppy mill ? or someone who doesn'ot even try t find their lost cat or kitten ?

dont feel bad about your review, this sint about hard cold genstones and bussiness, its about living breathing sentiant beings

Cole is growing so fast! He's looking very healthy, and he's obviously got self-confidence. Good job.

Bunny is very cautious about everything. Which is good because I think it will help keep her out of danger. I introduced her slowly to the water at the river. The first time she hit a pool where she couldn't stand up she was a little freaked out. But she swam across to the other side just fine. A natural. But she prefers to wade, not swim. They are herding dogs afterall =)2

@Rockdiamond, if you decide you want a purebred puppy, first research the breeders listed on the American Kennel Club website. I'm late to the discussion but if you haven't already left a review for the person you bought Cole from, please do and be brutally honest. The goal should be to shut down backyard breeders. They don't adhere to breeding standards, licensing, facility inspections, genetic issues, and care only about how much money they make.

As the days go by we love him more and more. I haven’t thought much about the butthead breeder. But I do feel a sense of responsibility to alert others. Maybe today

So adorable! so jealous

He's so big! Time to start. looking for a companion for him. I can't live with just one dog. At this point II want 5 after seeing our breeder handle so many. Always 2 or 3 dogs. on your lap. Okay, Cole is big but my point stands.

I told Sandra we’re getting another one!!!
Anyone know a good real estate agent for the apartment I’ll be needing???

Hahaha
Seriously- I’d love another doggie. But Cole really needs all the energy I can spare
