New puppy

Well, you didn't disclose the cost!!! :lol-2: Hopefully, you got out easy.

BTW, I love, love, love watching Aussies at agility competitions. No pressure though...

How does that puppy smell? I know you're taking hits several times a day.

OMG, you stole my post.
Puppy smell.
Bottle that $hit and make gazillions.....

Watching some training videos....puppies definitely scratch.....

What a cutie!

So cute. The itching may also be from whatever food you are using. Are you using the same food that the breeder was using? Many dogs are allergic to beef, dairy, and chicken. Those are the most common. If it continues you could try switching up the food before finding a doggie dermatologist.

By the way, I've never had a vet ask me to pay up front, or keep me from the examination room and I've always had dogs. They don't let me go in when he is having procedures done though.

Yes, we are... it's a dry food (embarrassed I don't remember the name... yellow bag... Purina puppy?)
About the local vet....once one starts doing even a little research, the negative reviews abound...I had posted a question on Facebook... my buddy let me know that the Vet has people posting positive stuff to counter all the true reviews.
The place we ended up going with was just wonderful.
The Vet and techs were gentle, and compassionate. The upfront payment is only for new patients.
We learned a lot.
She felt around and counted...One, two...... That's two balls- he's got'em both:)!
First thing we learned, you can't neuter a pup Cole's age.
Neutering is not a small deal....between $850-$1200...not that the money is the main issue....I just hate to think of my little guy getting cut.
We'll also have to microchip him ( $122)

They gave us meds for potential mites ( the Vet could not find one, but they're fast)
He'll need a series of shots...it's all good.....not complaining in any way.
I'm hoping we don;t have to do the doggie dermatologist- I really don't love giving him meds....

Definitely get the microchip. And put tags on his collar. I also have this on my guys collar which has the QR code that you can register.

Talk to the vet about food changes before going to the dermatologist. Also, wipe him down with pet wipes after he is outside. Where I am, the pollen is still bad, and that could bother him too. Just throwing some ideas out there. Clearly I'm not a vet. Just a dog mom.

Awwww...mommy often knows best:)
He's still too small for a collar.....
We'll definitely do something along those lines once he is.
Great point about the pollen too..."pet wipes"...I wasn't aware they existed.....
We're using old towels.

We're using old towels.
Before using them, smell them and if they have a strong scent then it could be what the puppy is reacting to.
Using a free and clear detergent and no dryer sheets on stuff for the puppy is a good idea.

Getting them used to baths using free and clear shampoos.
For example.

Thanks old buddy
I agree 100% for humans too:)
Of course we’re hoping the scratching issue responds to the treatment.
Also- as new “parents “ we’re not sure how much scratching is normal. For sure dogs like to scratch and lick themselves. Thankfully there’s no apparent skin abrasions.

Love the bedraggled puppy bath photo. His expression screams "I am not amused." There are so many things that could be causing the itching. If the culprit isn't found, it might boil down to the exasperating experience of trial and error to find the cause. Food, environmental allergies -- carpet, furniture, yard treatments, human soap, detergent, softeners, and into infinity and beyond. I hope that the cause and a treatment/solution are quickly found. I know how difficult it is to watch a fur kid deal with the the itch.

I recommend slowly weaning him off the Purina dry and onto a high quality canned food. Better yet a lightly cooked or combo lightly cooked/canned. Raw meaty bones as treats will help when he's teething and keep his adult teeth healthy.

One of our three couldn't have chicken, another was bothered by liver problems and needed special food, but when I read the label, it was crap. I spent so much time reading labels to find quality food, and it was getting to be too much to deal with, so I started them on Just Food For Dogs. It was totally worth it! No more itching, rashes, sick tummy - or big vet bill!

Thanks old buddy

i recently had a really gross strep infection on the back of my head (complications from covid) i used Borris' cat and dog) shampoo,-because it was there in the bathroom, it was really gentle and ddint sting and made my hair feel nice again without hurting

My gosh he looks huge to me! We use Burts Bee 2 in 1 shampoo for our dogs. Puppy is still itchy, but he has his last deworming pill tomorrow and he's just had his advantix, so all bases environmental should be covered. I would ask the vet for advice. Puppies take a while to get things sorted out in their brand new bodies. We went to the vet yesterday for a lesson on creating a healthy gut biome in a puppy. Lol.

I’m thinking that maybe that part of this is emotional. I mean look at the changes a puppy goes through.
His whole life has been spent with his brothers and sisters and mother. All of a sudden he’s completely alone, in terms of doggies.
We have a rawhide chew. Once he started gnawing on it, he was transfixed. No itching for about 15 minutes. Soon after he dropped it I took him out for a walk. He laid in the grass and started itching.

Geezus! It's been many years since I had a pet neutered, and I know you're in NY and all, but that's a lot! Definitely worth it though. He is adorable!

B-dog, the lovebird/ this little guy really is reacting to Cole. He’s a great flyer. Our house has the stairway in the middle so he flies around corners a lot.
Anyway since we introduced Cole he’s been flying to places he’s never flown before. Like landing on the floor- in the playpen where Cole is hanging out.
He’s also taken to zipping inches from our heads. Never did that before.
He’s such a weirdo. Hates sitting on fingers but doesn’t mind if you actually grab him.
Lovebirds are amazing creatures
