Hi there... I''m new here. I finally decided on the 1.63L rectangular cushion from GOG. The entire experience was very positive - the staff there is great. I love, love the diamond. They made me a custom setting - a basic 4-prong setting on a 2.2 band in platinum. Once I get some photos I''ll post them so you can see :).

There are a few things that surprised me about the setting, and I''m not sure quite what to do about it...the ring is slightly out of round - underneath the head (under the prongs) the band does a soft "s" curve, so the band doesn''t go in a straight line underneath the head - does that make sense? When I put it on a flat surface, with the head hanging off the edge, the two ends of the band are not parallel. Also, one of the prongs is slightly bowed - it is more curved than the others, bowing to the right. This prong also has a small, visible scratch on the platinum. I have emailed the GOG staff about my concerns, but since it was custom I am not sure if there is anything I can do.

These things don''t detract from the magic of the stone, but I am surprised that they are part of the setting. Am I being reasonable?

Can I get thoughts on this? Thanks SO much.

You''re likely to get more responses if you post pics so people can see what you''re talking about :)

Thank you! I will post photos later today - once I figure out the best way to get close-up shots with my little Canon Powershot. I did hear from GOG this morn, and they assured me they''d take a look and make it right, so I am not worried. I just need to make it out to the East Coast so they can see it.

Ahhh!! You are the culprit that got the cushion I wanted. I wanted a rectangular too but hubby was hesitant about the L and when he finally said okay, it was gone!! I guess early bird gets the worm...congrats. Photos please. Out of curiosity, is your setting GAB-WER4181D4? It would be too funny if you did because I picked out a rectangular chunky but not a GOG signature

chunky cushion with that setting.

Here is a quick handshot- I''ll post my "trouble areas" with the setting shortly.

Okay, here is a pic of the normal prongs

And a pic of the bent prong

And a closeup of the bowed prong

I am sure GOG will take care of it. Give them a chance.

And another bent prong shot...

Absolutely, I think they will.

Thanks, Neatfreak. And to be clear, I absolutely love my ring and I don''t want to take it off. :)

My experience with GOG has been very positive. Another nice pic of the ring here.

And on that note, I''m not going to post any more pics of the trouble spots, and just have faith that it will get worked out!

Absolutely gorgeous. I am green with envy. Definitely can see the bent prong but I am sure that the GOG team will take care of it.

Thanks, Diamondbug! My man was also wary of the "L" color - not sure it would be "classy." But he really loves it and so do I. He was also concerned the 1.63 would be too big and ostentatious. I love the rectangular shape and that soft sort of glow. I think he is okay with the size now - it looks so big on those magnified pics online!

Sarah and Marie at GOG have been totally helpful and wonderful through this process - I can''t say enough good about them both.

The rectangular shape was what I fell in love with.... it just sings to my heart. I was offered a square cushion but is was just not for me so I wasn''t kidding when I say I am green with envy. Enjoy it for the both of us. And seriously, is there really such a thing as too big when it comes to diamonds?

The stone is lovely and looks great on you. I''m going to agree with you that those prongs definitely need work. You can even see from looking at the ring straight on that they are not aligned correctly with the prongs on the other side. Of course we are looking at VERY close-up pics so we can see it. I''m sure most people looking at it don''t notice a thing except for that beautiful stone. :)

Thank you, BigDiamondTinyGirl - I agree that probably no one notices except me and my fiance. I am just sort of bummed because I spent so much time researching and picking out the ring, and it has been a bit of a journey - I was hoping this would be the end of the road and I would have an ideal specimen! I have faith that GOG will take care of me, but I am not sure how it will be fixed - I am a total jewelry newbie - freshly engaged. Do you think it''s fixable?

i am sure it can be fixed

I''m no jewelry expert either, but GOG has a good reputation on here, and I am sure they will do what it takes to fix it.

You have a beautiful stone, by the way, and I love the proportions of the setting.

Thanks, Sara! :) Part of the prob is I am freshly engaged so I want to keep it on my finger, as opposed to sending it in. Plus I am out West, so I can''t pop into the store myself.

Yeah. that''s a bummer that it needs re-looked at by GOG, but you know what? Even the best vendors have a hiccup every now and then, but I am 100% sure that it will be able to be fixed and I have every confidence that they will make it absolutely right for you. So don''t fret, and do ENJOY that killer diamond!!! YOWZA!!! Jon does it again!!!

Aww thanks, Lynn! I am so lucky that he let me pick it out! I am glad you see what I am talking about and that I am not being ridiculously nitpicky. This is my first big piece of jewelry ever, so I don''t know what level of perfection I should be expecting, you know?

Do you think it is fair to ask GOG to pay for some of the shipping? I looked it up on UPS and it is over $100 with insurance and delivery confirmation...

Pretty ring & stone! Congrats!

I think its fair to *ask* but not sure whether I''d expect it or not. You''re the one who chose to shop at a store far away. Yet they knew it was going to be shipped ... It''s their mistake ... but a shared responsibility as to how it gets where its going this go ''round I''d guess.

Sorry that happened! So frustrating not to be able to keep wearing it! Hope it gets back & is "all better" asap.

Firstly, thank you for the kind words Whisper.

If we are at fault and it appears we are, yes it is absolutely fair. We will cover the shipping both ways and take care of this 110% to get this taken care of as expeditiously as possible. My wife is in charge of the shipping and will send you a label for UPS. You will not have to pay a dime.

Kind regards,

Rhino, I really appreciate you taking the time to find and read my thread and also respond to it. I look forward to receiving the UPS label and sending my sparkly in for some TLC. This is very reassuring. :)
