New member plus shots of my new Barry B Umba Garnet

I've been lurking on the CS forum and decided to finally join. So hello to all! Also, hi to MTG and Frekechild who know me from another site.

I recently purchased this 2.56ct 8mm Umba garnet from Barry a couple of weeks ago. I just got around to taking photos now. It's a red color with a hint of pink and a bit of orange in certain lighting situations. (Sorry for the finger smudges!)

Pretty pretty pretty and a GREAT size - it should be easy to find a setting if you choose to have it set. Any ideas for a setting yet?

Thanks! Not sure of a setting yet. I was considering something from Daniel M maybe since I've heard lots of good things. I'm not sure if I should go with a ring or a pendant maybe... Hmm.

I love it! I have a somewhat similar stone (more pink!) and I have no idea what to do with it yet! So I'm looking forward to see what you do with it!

I love how red this stone is. Thats on color I don't really have...

Thanks for the welcome! I'm considering having it set into something like Daniel M's u-prong ring or a bezel pendant. I think that a bezel might darken the stone though... It's pretty lively in the sun, but it turns a bit brownish/orangish in low incandescent lighting. I'm not in a rush to have it set, so I might think of something more imaginative to do with it later.

Barry sent me another stone to view when I bought this one. I was worried the one I purchased might be too dark and wanted to see what the other one looked like since it was described as pink-red. It was bigger than this one, but I decided I liked mine better, since it turns a nice rich red in medium sunlight.

I'll attach a pic below of the other one. I'm not sure if Barry relisted it after I sent it back, but was a Tanga garnet, 8.5mm, 2.95ct described as pink-red with some purple flashes. Is this the one you have Freke? This one was pinker than mine and had pretty flashes of purple.

I think it's gorgeous! Two things about the bezel...you're right that it would darken the stone, and secondly I don't like bezeling Barry's stones. His girdles are so beautifully faceted that I think it's a shame to hide them. Just my 2 cents' worth.

And this is the stone I believe....It was purchased a couple years ago. I don't remember the stats. I really should figure that out.

Frekechild- I love the pink in that stone! It's almost like a dusty-rose but a bit more pink.
