Hi there,

I''m new to the forum and have been lurking for a few weeks. I have learned so much from reading....there is a wealth of information on here. You guys are so awesome and knowledgeable. My 5 year anniversay is on Jul 17, and I''m seeking to upgrade my stone. The stone I have now is horrible, and surely needs to be upgraded. My budget is $5,000 and I would really love to have a princess cut stone. I found one on Whiteflash and would love some feed back or recommendations. My preferance would be G or better and a VS1 if possible or better. Here is the link...I hope I''m doing this right... thanks in advance...http://www.whiteflash.com/princess/Princess-cut-diamond-1940422.htm

Welcome dewailer!

That looks like a virtual stone which isn't part of WF's inventory. They could call it in for evaluation maybe, have you seen anything you like from their in house diamonds, or those of any other vendor? This can make it easier as that way you know exactly what you are buying as often photos and images such as ASET are supplied so you can make an informed choice.

Maybe we could suggest some diamonds you might like? Is the 5k for the stone or does it need to cover the setting also? Would you consider VS2 clarity also? Obviously we can look for VS1 no problem, if needed to broaden the options if you were agreeable we could add VS2 to the search as you probably wouldn't notice any visual difference. This is very exciting as it is cut quality which gives a diamond its beauty, you are sure to notice a difference between a badly cut stone and a great one!

Thank you for your very kind words also, we appreciate it very much!

This page explains ASET and Idealscope

What size/ weight diamond are you hoping for?

Welcome! As Lorelei mentioned, we''ll need more info before recommending for or against it. You could ask WF to call the diamond in and take photos, ASET, IS, post the report, etc. Depth and table could be promising, but that''s all we can say.

Check out this thread for some more help. The OP from that thread was looking at 2 diamonds from James Allen, and this was one of them:
1.0 G/VS1

The IS was great (it''s posted in the thread), and it looked like a really nice cut. He eventually chose a different stone. That particular diamond is still listed as "no longer available" at JA; however, this may be because he had it on hold while he was deciding. JA may not have released the hold yet. You could call them and see if the diamond has been sold to someone else or if it would be available. It meets your desired specs and is in your price range.

Here''s the IS:

Also second the idea of opening up the clarity range to VS2 or eye-clean SI1. Also, H color would still face up nice and white in a well-cut princess. My princess is in fact an I color, and it''s very white. These considerations would open up a lot more possibilities for you.

This is the only decent stone I found that met you criteria and within budget http://www.whiteflash.com/princess/Princess-cut-diamond-2138410.htm
Its is $4931 with PS discount

Would you condider going smaller or going lower in color and clarity to give more options?

I agree with jstarfireb to check out jamesallen bc they might have more of a selection

EDT: im not a princess expert and cant really tell a good one without ASET but this 1 looks rather good to my eye

The WF stone (that Breann suggested) is a nice make - not top-notch, but better than most princesses out there. The table is larger than I prefer, but it's still a pretty stone. Regarding the JA stone, hard to tell from that photo, but it's worth checking out. Ask for an IS and a closer-up photo.

Ditto, might be worth getting an Idealscope image for the James Allen diamond.

I was hoping for at least a 1.00 but a 1.5 or just a little bigger would be great. I received some responses from Whiteflash today so I''m looking at those as I type this messsage.

If you want something in the 1-1.5ct range, you will probably have to compromise on color and clarity. Even then you probably can't get a decent 1.5 for $5000. However, we could probably find you something in the 1.2-1.3ct range if you would consider I-J color. These look good for starters:

ETA: We'd be happy to take a look at what WF has to offer you! Just post the images, numbers, and ASETs.

I meant 1.00 to 1.05 in size(a little bigger is fine too

)...sorry. I reallly want something that is surely eye clean with some sparkle. The stone that I have now is probably 1 carat or pretty close it''s a I SI3 with lot''s of visible inclusions. I wish I was able to upgrade by trading and paying the difference but that''s not the way to go I guess. I saw some loose stones on Friday and they were horrible with the naked eye. My ring has two rows of princess stones on the sides (a channel setting I believe is what its called) but my main stone is round...it''s not what I wanted but we made it work and said we would upgrade for our 5th wedding anniversary. Any other suggestions?

Ah! Much more doable. However, if you wanted even bigger, you could pursue the suggestions I made above. In a top-quality cut, I and J color will be white...not dingy or ugly or anything, just a warm creamy white. Your current stone may not be a top cut and therefore may not face up as well as an I potentially can. So that could still be an option if you''re interested. I would check out Mrs. W''s suggestion from JA first because it seems to fit what you''re looking for.

Thanks so much for all the responses! Would a H or I in color in a top quliaty stone appear real yellow?

Not to me, Jstar in fact has an I colour Princess so she will be able to give you her impressions.
