Hi All,

I''m new to posting, but have been lurking the past few weeks. I have to say this forum is so incredibly helpful. I''ve forwarded it to all my girlfriends who are in the process of getting engaged. What a great resource. Now, as my name suggests I am looking for a cushion. I''ve read all the threads and gazed longingly at the cushion halo thread. Seriously, the forums should be featured on Oprah, its definitely made my list of favorite things.

So here''s my deal. My BF and I have decided that this year is the year to get engaged, however my boy wants to do the research all on his own--despite my own control freak like habits of over researching everything. I''ve showed him a few things online here and there, commented when I see other girl''s rings. He has started to become more curious about prices for rings, etc. I think he has NO clue how much rings cost in actuality and his friend''s rings are beautiful but nothing I would want necessarily and I think they all overpaid--they all have frequented the same B&M store. The BF is not a great shopper--and tends to get sucked into things fairly easily or sees something he likes and forgets to ask all the other questions that go along with the purchase. Now. I''m definitely sending him to ERD--I''m contemplating contacting them ahead of time to let them know what I''m looking for so that when the boy calls him they have an idea--Yes or No?

Secondly, I have watched the Mark T. Tutorial video and spent countless hours reviewing specs of RB, Cushions, and Ovals. I have a size 7.5 and want the blingiest bling and finger coverage I can get for our budget (I''m not totally sure what the boy''s top top is but I''m guessing around 15k) What do you all think about the Cushion vs. Oval debate? I know Mark T. says in his video that if you are looking for a more rectangular Cushion--which I am, to just buy an Oval. Are there any pictures of Ovals set in Halos?

I''ve done the searches--I know he needs to go see the cushions in person so that isn''t a huge deal, we are based in NY. But--do you think I am being realistic in thinking that he might be able to get a 1.75 ct or bigger cushion set into a "winne" or "fatguy" style for that budget? As far as the other specs--I''ve tried on D-I stones and they look fine--my skin tone is on the darker side. and I would go as low as an S1 to qualify for the ERD upgrade down the road.

Help! I feel like when you walk into the B&M stores the prices seem so inflated, and I guess I just want to adjust my own expectations in advance in case I end up with a smaller center stone.

Any advice would be appreciated. Apologies in advance if this post is eerily familiar to another one on the boards that I may have missed.

As always,

For 15k you can get a lovely larger cushion in a beautiful setting. I would definitely recommend contacting ERD and letting them know ahead of time what you are looking for so that if your bf doesn''t know they can make sure he is on the right path. I would get specific with them and tell them you are looking for a cushion that has a higher length to width ratio. As far as actual pricing goes, you''d have to do a search using the prices tab and compare prices to see if your budget goes as far as you''d like it to go.

To figure out whether you should go with a cushion or oval, you might want to check out some in person. To me personally, I think they have totally different looks, even compared to rectangular cushions.

Thanks for the info. I suppose the difficulty is that I love the Cushion and the Oval shapes on my hands when I tried them on.

Too bad I can''t convince him to get me one of each.

I''ll definitely contact ERD in advance of my BF just to give him a head''s up.
