Hi--

I am new to pricescope and I have been lurking for about a week. So many beautiful gems and pieces of jewelry! I look forward to seeing everyone's new finds!

I don't really have any colored stones yet, but I am thinking of starting small, with a chrysoberyl. Any suggestions on what I should look for?

I think I am definitely heading for a colored-stone addiction! :naughty:

Are you talking about chrysoberyl cat's eye, or just faceted transparent chrysoberyl?

Hi TL, I have really admired your jewelry pieces! The stones I have seen are so bright and vivid!

I was thinking faceted clear chrysoberyl. I'm just not sure how pictures translate into the stones IRL. I'd like to get as bright and vivid of a stone as I can find. And I'm not sure whether "yellowish green" or "greenish yellow " makes for a prettier stone.

Thanks!

Thank you Erini,
Whether you like greenish yellow, or yellowish green, the most important thing is to learn how to evaluate the strength of color, or "saturation." Stones that are highly saturated lack grey or brown in their color, which chrysoberyls are prone to. There are some very saturated "neon-like" stones out there, but they are rare. I purchased my chrysoberyl from an ebay vendor that I've had very good luck with, but even among his stones, you need to evaulate each one differently, compare them side by side in videos, and see what makes for a good stone. If you need help, you should post some photos of gems you're interested in on PS, and perhaps we can give some tips.

TL: Like a lot of other people on pricescope, I was completely taken by your chrysoberyl ring, and as a complete novice, i am afraid i will end up with a washed out peridot wanne-be instead of a super-bright stone.

I looked on Tan's ebay sites, but I don't think any of the stones available are what I am looking for. I guess I have to be patient!

thanks for the info!

Yes, I've been scoping Tan's site for vivid chrysoberyls too, and they are difficult to come by. Patience is a virtue when collecting and acquiring colored gems.

Thank you so much for the kind words on my chrysoberyl ring. I love it too.

Erin,
It seems rather difficult to find that bright neon-y chrysoberyl but be patient and persistent. Whichever hue you decide on, go for the one where the colour pops. There is no right or wrong answer in deciding if yellowish green or greenish yellow is prettier. I think TL’s is greenish yellow while mine is yellowish green and I’d still take hers in a heartbeat if she’ll ever give it up. Crasru has also purchased a chrysoberyl or twon from the same eBay vendor.

Thanks for the info Chrono and TL--excited to be on this forum!
